Sidney's National Guard Company K of Scottsbluff and Alliance advanced over 1500 feet at Camp Ripley Minnesota on the first day of a three day bivouac. The 75 man unit showed field skill and checked on alleged enemy agents while cooks earned Best Mess honors as the 134th Infantry Regiment trains amid mosquitoes and cool evenings. The unit returns to Camp Ripley Thursday night and heads home Sunday afternoon.

Rites Friday For Mrs. Ella Burke
Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Burke 85 who died of a heart attack Saturday morning at her daughter’s Pasadena home will be held Friday with time pending family arrival in Sidney. Burial will be Greenwood Cemetery. She was a former Sidney resident and member of St. James Methodist Church. Survived by daughter Carl Ledbetter and her husband, granddaughter Margaret McCoy of Sacramento, grandsons Doug and Kathy McCoy, sisters Mary Daniels and Elizabeth Hughes, brothers Will and George Hughes, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband Carl E. Burke and son John Bennett Burke. Services were held Tuesday in Pasadena at Ives and Warren Memory Chapel.
