Cheyenne County led the Panhandle area in 1966 federal farm payments, receiving 5.22 million as part of programs including wheat, feed grain, conservation, and cropland adjustments. The United States government orders two Texas Rangers into Sidney on Saturday to aid posses in pursuing outlaw Sam Bass. Bass eludes Cheyenne County posses and has threatened to ride into Sidney, prompting fears of gunfire as residents expect efforts to restore law and order.

Stores Open Late for Centennial Holiday Observance

Most retail stores will stay open until nine tonight to observe the Centennial holiday. They plan to close next Tuesday, August 22, to allow proprietors and employees to celebrate the full day, a cooperative action by Cheyenne County mayors.

State orders Sidney plant to shut down

The Nebraska Bureau of Animal Industry ordered Nebraska Meat Packers, Inc. rendering plant just north of Sidney closed until the facility and surrounding area meet state standards. Dr. D. G. Kiger cited rodent and fly problems and odors, saying the plant failed Nebraska regulations and operations must cease.

ASC to Close Cheyenne County Office for Centennial Observance

The Cheyenne County ASC office will be closed all day next Tuesday August 22 to join other offices and businesses in observing the Centennial. Law rence Thompson the manager announced the closure.

Centennial Fair Set to Begin Across Cheyenne County

Centennial events kick off this weekend at Cheyenne County fairgrounds with a week of free entertainments. Parades travel through Sidney on Monday and Tuesday with a grand parade at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Highlights include 4 H horse classes, a Fiddlers contest, motorcycle racing, a centennial ball, multiple rodeo events, and the fourth day features a Watermelon Feed and livestock sales.

Czech Folk Dancers to Feature at Free Show Aug 22

The South Divide Folk Dancers a Czech group formed as a Centennial project will perform at a free show August 22 from 5 to 6 p m at the fair grounds sharing the program with Ken Barrett champion baton twirler the West Kearney Indian Dancers and the Canadian girls pipe band The dancers formed this year by four couples from the South Divide include Don Lafler Fred Kilgore Raymond Tilghman Melvin Kokes Lorraine Lafler Frances Kilgore and Raymond Tilghman among others born in the Czech settlement near Lodgepole The group uses polka as a base and also features Annie In The Cabbage Patch their barn dance memory with fiddle and accordion deepening Nebraska ties to Czech heritage

Rodeo Tickets On Sale At Fair Grounds

Reserved seat rodeo tickets go on sale Saturday at the fair grounds ticket office. Early sales are available at the Chamber of Commerce, 740 Illinois. Prices are 2 dollars for adults and 1 for children for reserved seats. General admission is 1.75 dollars for adults and 75 cents for children. The RCA approved rodeo begins in Sidney with top performers starting Sunday.
