County Fair Draws Record Cheyenne Attendance

Cheyenne County Fair drew a record crowd as events like rodeo and tractor pulling attracted thousands. Attourney Don Tedesco filed charges against David M Bickford of Sidney for shooting with intent to kill or maim. son Mark, 18, wounded by heavy birdshot at about 50 yards near Union Pacific tracks. The incident left Mark in fair to good condition at Memorial Hospital. Authorities described the injury to head and neck. Sunday was the peak day with a parade, barbecue, and rodeo drawing large crowds. fair officials estimate at least 8,000 attendees.

Grand Champion steer sells for eighty a hundred at Cheyenne County Fair

Greg Markel of Lodgepole showed the grand champion steer named George which sold for 80 per hundred to Sidney Safeway Store. First State Bank of Lodgepole bought the reserve market steer for 70 per hundred shown by JoAnn Bondegard. Multiple 4 H winners and parade honors noted along with a large fair crowd and a late rodeo night.

Housing survey forms available in conjunction with planned project

Sidney Housing Authority chairman Vince Maliszewski announced today that survey forms for a housing project in Cheyenne County are available from him and the commerce office. Under rural development rules communities under 10,500 qualify, so Sidney residents may participate. The forms support a Farmers Home Administration loan program to a local corporation.

Storm knocks out power in Sidney areas

Lightning struck during a rainstorm cutting primary lines feeding Sky Manor and Legion Park in Sidney. Don Parr, city electrical distribution manager, said power was out from about 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. due to a knocked out primary wire near the Cheyenne County Court House, with two lines down in north Sidney and street light wires also affected.

Windy Warmer Weather Forecast For Nebraska

The National Weather Service warned Nebraskans of windy and warmer conditions through Tuesday driven by a small high over Missouri and an approaching Pacific cold front. A thunderstorm risk exists Monday night into Tuesday. heat and low humidity may create dangerous conditions for confined livestock. Temperatures range from upper 60s to low 70s tonight with highs in the 90s, except the far northwest.
