Delinquent Cheyenne County Property Taxes Due in Ten Days

Cheyenne County owners who have not paid the second half real estate tax have ten days to pay. After August ends, second half payments become delinquent and subject to penalties. Personal property tax for 1956 is already delinquent if unpaid. County Treasurer M M In helder notes tax receipts are improving with some large payments recently. Traditionally, big real estate tax payers delay until the last day, making August collections substantial.

More than 90 percent of Nebraska’s 1957 wheat acreage used five recommended varieties Pawnee Nebred Cheyenne Comanche and Ponca. Only 0.4 percent went to objectionable types with weak gluten.

County Fair Closes With Festive Rural Flair

Cheyenne County Fair wrapped after a four day run from Wednesday through Saturday drawing several thousand to the new fairgrounds. The rodeo and carnival produced revenue enough to cover expenses though the rodeo deficit was smaller than anticipated. A record 97 4-H fat calves sold at auction led by Robert Rowan’s grand champion Hereford at 1245 pounds.

Johnson Field well tests signal oil potential in Cheyenne County

In northwestern Cheyenne County the Johnson No 1 well in 2-16-53 shows a good 6 to 12 foot oil saturation zone near the Johnson Field. Shell plans production casing as drilling proceeds. gas surfaced during a prior test while operations paused at 2,300 feet. Multiple other wells and wildcats are active in the surrounding Gaylord, Juds, Maas, and Edwards areas as operators push deeper in Kimball, Banner, Morrill, and Scotts Bluff counties.

Ribbon Cutting For Lee Store Thursday

The Lee Store opens with a ribbon cutting Thursday morning led by Carolyn McGirr who placed fourth in the Miss Universe pageant. Mayor Doyle Cooland and a Lee Stores Inc officer are expected to attend as Hollis Perntt says the store is buzzing with new fixtures and departments being prepared. Sidney Council Opens Bids for Airport Runway Project

Sidney City Council in a special session will open sealed bids tomorrow for the airport runway extension. The project aims to expand the runway from 2,800 feet by 50 feet to 4,500 by 100, with a total estimated cost near 200 000 and federal and state grants totaling about 135 000.

Tragic Sidney Farm Fire Kills Six Relatives

A flash fire at a Sidney area farm killed fifteen month old twins Gloria Mae and Violet Kittleman and Harley Sinclair, 17. Their parents George and Pauline Kittleman, and the couple’s son were injured with George dying later at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital. The cause appears to be an attempt to pour fuel into a stove, with an explosion during the early morning blaze. Funeral plans set for the three deceased and burial at Greenwood Cemetery.

Chappell Man's Death Taken Off Road Toll

Arthur D Bush 81 of Chappell died July 26 in a car train collision at a Union Pacific crossing one mile east of Chappell. Robert Pease director of the State Accident Records Bureau ruled the incident occurred on private property removing the death from the Nebraska 1957 toll list.

Sidney motorist fined for careless driving in two car crash

John Nolan of Sidney was fined 25 plus costs in police court after a 9 35 a m collision in the Town and Country parking lot involving his car and a vehicle driven by Mrs Rosemary Thomas of Route 2 Sidney. No injuries reported.

County Board To Fix Levies In Cheyenne County

County commissioners plan a final approval of the 1957 levy and review tax computations led by County Clerk I L Pindell.
