Local trades, marriage license, and travels to Denver, Rock Springs, and Denver are listed among social notes.
Superintendent Mrs Knox presents Cheyenne County annual school statistics including money received 291,572 disbursed 34, quoting a balance of 8,440.24. Bonded debt 15,000 other debts 19,390.25. District property valued at 22,800.77. School census 1,696 with 609 districts and 99 teachers certified. 47 teachers needed. Wages average 52. To for men and 35.41 for women.
The Commercial Club committee organizing the Fair and Festival for September 21 and 22 works hard to ready exhibitions. Prepare stock and select top entries across lines. Auctioneer will offer good prices. Bun sandwiches and coffee served daily at noon. premium lists to appear next week.
The Sidney Commercial Club discussed securing an elevator after talks with farmers who favored ownership or strong partnership. A committee was formed to meet farmers and raise subscriptions to an elevator company. Members named: C. E. Trognitz, McLernon, A. E. Cady, J. W. Harper, W. S. Shoemaker, Chas. Callatian.
From September 3 to 14 the Union Pacific posts a very low round trip rate to San Francisco or Los Angeles. Tickets on sale with a 12.50 higher price for those traveling via Portland. Inquire of ALVA B. Capy, Agent.
August 16 at the Methodist Episcopal church witnessed the wedding of Josef LeRoy Kleespie and Mae Elizabeth Harper. The ceremony featured pink and white decor, a Mendelssohn march, and a reception at the Harper home with family and friends in attendance.
On Saturday evening Mrs. Frederick Jack’s Myrtle street residence lit with electric lights entertained twenty five cheerful children in honor of Miss Edith Jensen of Cheyenne. A procession greeted them at the gate then music dancing games and a lunch followed before goodbyes.
German Lutheran minister Rev J Petereit died in Sidney after months of illness from pulmonary trouble. He had sought treatment in Sidney and was returned to Weyerts for burial with funeral services in the church where he served as pastor. The piece also notes shire conventions in Lincoln where Democrats and Populists fused behind a ticket led by governor candidate A C Shallenberger. It mentions Rev and Mrs Geo A Beecher and family stopping at Postmaster McLernon’s home while traveling from Wyoming to Omaha.
Miles McCracken and his wife traveled from Alliance and returned there Tuesday morning after visiting the Neubauers as their guests.
Dan Berguan returned Thursday from an eastern trip. He was accompanied from Lincoln by a nephew who will make his home with him.
Mrs. D. P. Evans of Cheyenne attended the Kleespie Harper wedding and briefly visited with her parents Dr and Mrs Murlless.
Herman N. Wilson manager of Motter-Wheeler store and Miss Mattie Eleanor Washburn were married at the bride's home in Moscow Idaho. Officiating was Prof Morley. The couple plans a brief honeymoon at the Coeur dAlene lakes before returning to housekeeping.
