Dryland Crops Need Moisture Despite Scattered Showers

Cornerstone rites planned for Lodgepole High School

Lodgepole prepares for the 247000 cornerstone ceremony to open the new Lodgepole High School. J K Yanney school board president and Joseph C Tye of the Nebraska Masons will lay the cornerstone with Golden Red Lodge No 306 AF&AM in charge. The event includes a noon luncheon and a procession, with state and local officers, Girl Scouts, and many Masonic dignitaries in attendance. The new eight classroom building will replace the old grade school and junior high, aiding future growth in Lodgepole.

Mrs. Edyth Lobb Dies After Long Illness in Sidney

Mrs Edyth Lobb 67 of 1444 King died this morning at Memorial Hospital after a four year illness. She and husband Jason O Lobb lived in Sidney 19 years and had a daughter Sylvia Underdown. Survived by husband, daughter, two grandchildren, sister and brothers. Funeral arrangements pending with Craig Mortuary.

Former Sidney Music Instructor Bertha Coates dies

Bertha Coates 69 longtime Sidney piano instructor died recently in Denver. Born in Wellfleet Nebraska she lived in Denver since 1945 after earlier residing in North Platte and Sidney. She taught in Sidney for over twenty years and later worked at the Air Force Finance Center in Denver. Survived by son Ralph Sr. of West Warwick Rhode Island.

Kennedy to Visit Scottsbluff by Panhandle Democrats

Senator John Kennedy of Massachusetts is slated to visit Scottsbluff in October. The event will be hosted by the Panhandle Democratic Club per Scotts Bluff County Democratic Chairman H J Holtorf.

Fire damages Good-All plant and Capri Cafe in Ogallala blaze

A Sunday fire heavily damaged the Good-All Manufacturing Co main plant's capacitor division and burned Capri Cafe in the same building. Firemen from four towns fought the flames for nearly four hours, with a fire wall stopping spread. Two firemen and one Good-All employee were hospitalized. Estimated damage starts at $100,000, with finished products valued up to about $290,000.

Jurgens Community Leader Dies in Wyoming Burial Set

Christ Jurgens 85 longtime Sidney resident died Saturday at Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne. He lived with daughter Mrs Vernell Bartels in Cheyenne for 18 months. Funeral service Wednesday at 2 pm from Holy Trinity Lutheran Sidney with Rev Henry Monnich officiating. Burial Greenwood Cemetery. Craig Mortuary in charge. Survivors include daughter and sister in Sidney. Funeral attendees include Jurgens relatives from Cheyenne, Gurley.

Rites Wednesday For Mrs DeGraw

Mrs Stella DeGraw aged 83 died last week in Cheyenne after farming in the North Platte Valley from 1902 to 1954. She married George DeGraw in Sidney on December 7 1897 and survived by 55 grandchildren and 85 great grandchildren. Services will be held in Cheyenne on Wednesday. Mr DeGraw died in 1858.

Potter Days Princess Candidates Named for Queen Event

Thirteen Potter lasses were chosen as Potter Days candidates for queen and two attendants to be crowned at the Sept 18 and 19 celebration. Each dance ticket grants one vote.
