Cheyenne County Fair Opens With Full Three Day Lineup

County Agent Ivan Liljegren notes more entries than in years past as Cheyenne County Fair kicks off with three days of events. Key attractions include a free Quarter Horse Show, Friday and Saturday rodeos, livestock judging, 4-H contests, parades, a cattle sale, a charity bingo, and a carnival. Local acts include Gene Sisler with Australian Shepherd, Ed Hanna the rodeo announcer, and Jim Wise as rodeo clown.

Oil Gas Lease Sale Slated In Colorado

Cheyenne County Sheriff's office probes burglary at Hughes Tool Co. warehouse at 17th and Hickory in Sidney. Company investigators discussed the break in Wednesday. Stolen items include used tri cone rock drilling bits. Loss value undetermined due to price variance and possible resale as junk. Investigation began Monday. break in likely occurred Wednesday night or early Thursday.

Kelley Eyes Early Start on Parlat Well North of Potter

Kelley of Sterling expects a good producing No. 1 Llama well in the Llama Field north of Potter after swabbing four barrels per hour in tests. He plans an east offset to Slama, with Wytex drilling within days, and has arranged Shell Oil Co. to take over the No. 1 Whitney gas or oil well nearby. Logan Drilling Co. handles the completion while British American Oil abandoned the No. 1 Dvorak to the north yesterday.

Lodge Pole Creek Goes Dry Near Lodgepole Creek Wells

Emergency dredging near the wells feeding Lodgepole Creek west of Sidney aims to restore flow through Legion Park. Crews remove weeds and a dirt layer from about 500 yards of the creek bed to prevent Legion Lake from drying, with completion expected late today or tomorrow.

Water Show Set Here August 27

A hearing on Burlington Railroad's request to close Dalton station is scheduled for Thursday August 27 at 10 a.m. in the Sidney courthouse.
