A wave of new drilling sites and several wildcats sweep across Cheyenne County Nebraska. Ohio Oil Co reports gas shows at the Hawkins No 2 west of Lorenzo and shifts to the Newman No 4 in the Cook Field as British American and Sun Oil drill and St. Clair area wells.

Desirable and Undesirable Wheat Varieties Cited for 1960

Cheyenne County wheat growers are warned that 20 cent price-support discounts apply to listed undesirable varieties. A national tally now includes 37 such varieties, four added this year in hard red winter and hard red spring classes. Producers must identify the variety at support time. no protein or amber premiums apply to these types.

Nebraska Passes 100 Million Barrels in Oil Output

Nebraska crude oil production reached 100 million barrels as of March 20 1959 with the Panhandle's Big Three Kimball Cheyenne and Bausner leading output. Western Nebraska counties and Richardson Morrill accounted for the majority while average daily production neared 60 000 barrels.

Corn Support Set At 1.12 For 1959 Crop In Cheyenne County

The 1959 corn price support in Cheyenne County is fixed at an average of 1.12 dollars per bushel. James C. Johnson, chairman of the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee, announced the rate, tied to the national average announced last February. Eligibility requires 1959 production, grade No 3 or better or No 4 by test weight, proper moisture, and adequate storage, with storage loans and purchase agreements used to implement the program.

Space Age Phone Call Shocks Chappell Resident

Mrs. Hulda Hedlund of Chappell received a space age phone call Sunday at 7 am. She was told in 13 minutes she would speak with her son Earl Hedlund, an Air Force colonel, who was 38 000 feet above Chappell in a supersonic jet traveling 600 miles per hour. The son connected from Hawaii after leaving Washington, D C.

Two on Same Bike Accident Injures Sidney Girl

An 11 year old Sidney girl Sherri Kaylor and 11 year old Janice Holtman rode the same bicycle when they hit a curb at the 3rd Street underpass Thursday morning. Sherri sustained bruises and a knee injury requiring two stitches and was treated at a local doctor's office. Janice Holtman was uninjured.

Ogallala to Host Nebraska Wheat Growers Meeting

The Nebraska Wheat Growers Association will hold an all day session in Ogallala next Monday, August 17, led by Bennie Herboldsheimer of Potter, president of Cheyenne County Wheat Growers. Losers To Get Soil Bank Priority In 1960

Cheyenne County farmers who were denied Conservation Reserve contracts in 1959 due to funds will receive first consideration for 1960 if eligible. James C. Johnson says three local farmers missed contracts in 1959. nationwide about 70 000. Eligible growers offered basic rate minus county wide average reduction. Those declining may stay in the regular pool.
