Deuel County Fair Kicks Off With Exhibits And Contests
CHAPPELL The Deuel County Fair opens Tuesday running through Thursday. Events include exhibits judging non livestock entries and horse show, fair king and queen ceremonies, 4 H dress revue junior talent and song contests, livestock judging, kids games, golf ball contest, pie eating, and local talent shows. The Bicentennial parade themed Spirit of 76 starts at 10 am Thursday features 4 H and FFA entries. Thursday also offers livestock sale at 1 pm barbecue at 5 to 7 pm, a Blackwood Singers grandstand show at 8 pm, rocket club display, and winners presentation plus slipper kicking contest.

Plane crash kills former Dalton woman and husband
A Kearney couple with western Nebraska ties died in a plane crash 34 miles northeast of Overton in Dawson County Sunday night. Donald L Childs, 38, was the pilot and his wife Lesley, 35, were returning from his high school reunion at Gering High School. Childs taught at Banner County High School and previously at Doniphan, Fairfield and Lexington. his father was a longtime Gering High School band director. They left three children, Alan 11, Angela 6 and Aaron. The crash occurred with another weekend Nebraska accident killing three near Columbus.

Robert E Gardner 35 of Brady Nebraska faces first degree murder charges for stabbing 13 times the 60 year old Crook woman Mrs Clara M Abts in her mobile home kitchen Friday afternoon. He was arrested two hours later in Sedgwick after driving the victim’s car through a fence. Mrs Abts daughter in law Mrs Clifford Abts identified the suspect and car helping police track him.

Sidney street crews run out of paint on city markings
City of Sidney street crews dipped into the bottom of their paint cans last week but could not complete re stripping parking stalls pedestrian cross walks school crossings and other street markings. Officials said the crews ran out of paint and expect to resume and finish the job starting Friday. Crews have been painting at night to let markings dry and minimize traffic disruption.

Dix Interstate 80 crash kills two in Nebraska
A Denver man Kenneth D Walton 21 and his mother Beryl A Walton 45 of Aurora Colorado died when their motorcycle was struck by a semi truck after clipping a parked car on the right shoulder near the Dix interchange on I-80. Authorities from the Nebraska State Patrol said the derailment happened in low visibility from a dirt storm and the truck continued about 500 feet before stopping. The motorcycle first hit a parked car driven by AZ Williams 57 of New Orleans causing the fatal sequence. Williams’ car sustained about 600 dollars in damage while the truck had none. The incident remains under investigation.
