First Death in Sidney Oil Field Fatality
Richard L. Searsey 25 of Augusta Kansas a derrick worker at Roberts Bros oil drilling on John Elsasser farm west of Sidney was killed in a late Monday accident. Reports say his head was crushed between a pipe and the derrick. He died en route to Slaney and the body rests at Gehrig Funeral Home awaiting word from a Kansas sister. This marks the first oil crew fatal in the Sidney field recently opened.

Losses Heavy In Series Of Auto Crashes
Two traffic crashes on High way 30 near Sidney and Chap five miles west of Chap resulted in $1,500 in vehicle damages. In the first, John Zoller and Lavern Sprengel, both Lodgepole, sustained no injuries after a rear end collision. a third Detroit vehicle and its trailer suffered major losses. In the second, Robert Thompson of Detroit rolled a 1940 LaSalle with a house trailer, causing substantial losses to the trailer though all occupants survived with minor injuries.

John Huls Is Polio Victim In Lincoln Nebr Hospital
John Huls, Sidney National Guard member, contracted poliomyelitis last Wednesday while at Fort Leonard Wood. Paralyzed in both arms with some use returning to the right arm, he is treated at Lincoln General Hospital. He left Sidney on August 6 with fellow guardsmen and was flown to Lincoln Thursday. His sister Mrs. Gerry Cole and brother Joseph Huls of Gurley visited over the weekend. He is in good spirits and assured of top care.
