Improvements in Crop Prospects Shown for July
The agriculture department reported July brought general crop gains with corn rising by 110 million bushels from a month earlier to 2.385 billion, the smallest corn crop in twenty six years. Winter wheat fell 28 million bushels, spring wheat rose 24 million to 208 million. Overall, all crops average close to the ten year figure, with drought scarce, though late corn may face frost risk and abandonment could rise in the corn belt. Winter wheat yields average 41.5 bushels per acre, quality at 8.5 percent, rust threats noted for spring wheat, and total combined wheat is 51.145 million bushels, above last year and the five year average.
