The Nebraska winter wheat yield is placed at 91 bushels per acre with a 71,597,000 bushel forecast. Corn improves while oats decline. rye and barley drop. High dry winds caused premature ripening and some shrunken wheat affecting full injury estimates. The all wheat forecast totals 75,073,000 bushels amid report of black stem rust in parts of the region.
M A Shipman, a prominent Burlington railroad representative and Cheyenne county booster, announces in The Telegraph the opening of a campaign to sell attractive building lots on the city’s west side. Western Nebraska reports Charles Harris, an escapee from Utah and participant in the Bushnell Nebraska bank robbery, fled Canon City Colorado penitentiary after a Colorado escape last winter. Harris along with two accomplices previously robbed Bushnell and faced internal gang violence that left two dead and Harris wounded. His partner in the Bushnell crime is serving a Nebraska prison term in Lincoln.
With the surveying of the Yoder extension completed a crew from the Omaha offices has established quarters at Cheyenne area and construction will start soon. The line runs from Yoder to the main line twenty miles east of Cheyenne creating a new outlet for the North Platte Valley.
A group of ten property owners seeks a modern street lighting system on a two block portion of Second street from Slayter's garage to Neubauer corner to match Central avenue. Council favors lighting the business district with an estimated cost near 1500 dollars, but the current petition covers only the two blocks around Central avenue unless more petitions are filed.
Lyle Mertz, 16, of Sterling Coio, employed on a road gang between Gurley and Morrill county seat, fell under a loaded dump wagon and was dragged by team lines. He suffered severe bruises and a badly lacerated left thumb, but no internal injuries were expected. he was treated at Dr Zarbaush’s office and later taken to the Sidney hospital.
Joe Simodynes, once a standout in this state, returned to the Sidney Broadwater game last Sunday. Despite lingering joints from a long layoff, "The Hoss" made a brilliant running catch in right field and delivered two neat sacrifice hits. His outfield performance complemented Smiley of Broadwater, marking a feature of the contest.

Six inch casing may extend several hundred feet more. sands expected near 4450 feet but formation not yet identified.
A heavy storm Sunday night caused thousands of dollars in crop damage in the northwest end of the state near Alliance. Wheat harvest was peaking with about half the crop gathered. This storm marked the second damaging hail event in Crawford's territory this month.
The Cotton Blossom Singers from Piney Woods Mississippi will perform jubilee songs at the Methodist church Wednesday evening August 17 at eight o'clock. Admission is free but an offering will be taken. The organization is a male quartet.
Louise Elsie Meyer 37 of Bronson district died at Taylor hospital after chronic kidney trouble. Born near Wayne Nebraska to George and Margaret Hofeldt she married William Meyer in 1913 and had one son Merlin Henry. Funeral at German Lutheran church in this city with Rev Polster officiating, burial near Wayne at Hofeldt plot.
Edward Seerie, driver of the death car in which Naomi Fishman was killed on August A Tth, died last Friday in Denver from injuries. He suffered severe lacerations and internal injuries after the crash. Miss Helen Herrington, the other occupant, remained in critical condition with little change. Seerie was the son of J D Ren, a Denver businessman, and had been a Princeton student last year and a Mines College attendee in summer.

The J. B. Byars company department store will extend its famous summer stock clearance through the week, closing Saturday night. Manager Roy Giggett says new staple lines have been added and attractive price concessions offered across the entire sale. Tickets are being issued in the Gold Contest during the event.
Nr Snyder the well known tailor and clothier who has run a store on the west side of Central avenue in the Moore building has bought the building across the avenue from another clothing house. He will remodel the front adjoining Greenlees and fix the interior for a modern store and move from the Moore building once remodeling is finished.
Sax artist and band leader Bill Miles had a finger badly crushed Friday night when caught in a car door. He and his Miles dance band provided music for a large Haxton dance in Coto that evening.
Judge J L Tewell and court reporter Guy Brill traveled to North Platte on Sunday where Tewell conducted a district court bench session.
