Grand Champion Steer Shown By Dan Kastens
A 19 year old Lodgepole youth in his final 4-H year won the grand champion steer at the 1970 Cheyenne County Fair with an 1100 pound Angus steer. Reserve champion went to Scott Bondegard of Goodview Club with a Hereford. Grand Champion Market Heifer was Larry Glassburn of Lodgepole, with Darlene Schlesselman from Sidney taking the reserve. Breeding heifer champion went to Tammie Livingston of Sidney, with brother Mark Livingston taking the reserve. Gene Nelson of Dalton won the Weight Gain trophy with 635 pounds. Harvey Miles Jr. showed the grand champion crossbred steer and grand champion shorthorn, while Dan Peetz had the reserve crossbred.

Marathon Wins Two Oil Leases At Former Army Depot
Marathon Oil Co won two of three tracts offered for oil and gas leases on the former Sioux Army Depot lands near Cheyenne. Marathon paid 310.45 acres at 151.72 per acre totaling 47,101.47 and 640 acres at 277.97 per acre totaling 177,900.80, with the third 640 acres going to William H. McElwain for 11,200. The parcels adjoin producing Mary Thompson No 1 wells. The total bid value for all three parcels was 236,202.27. The interior Department through the Bureau of Land Management announced the winners after a jurisdiction dispute between GSA and Interior.

State Trooper Richard Larsen apprehended 22 year old Rodger D Ferguson of Cincinnati on Highway 30 at Potter. Ferguson, jailed in Cheyenne County, drove a stolen 1969 Chevrolet Impala reported stolen in Cincinnati July 31. He is also wanted for theft of 224 dollars from a party boat where he worked.
