The Cheyenne County Fair runs August 18 19 and 20 with a three day program including vaudeville acts free gate admission to most areas and a full midway. Ed Swatzlander Dies in California at 76
W. E. Ed Swatzlander, 76, former Sidney banker and rancher, died Friday night in San Bernardino, California after months of ill health. A Sidney native who moved to California twenty five years ago, he led The First National Bank of Sidney and owned large ranch acreage in Lodgepole Valley. Survived by wife Ida, two sons and two daughters, he had been active in real estate in Los Angeles and San Bernardino. Funeral services were held Monday in San Bernardino.

Kimball Couple Hurt In Wreck
A Kimball couple, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blackman, were badly injured when their 1949 Harley Davidson motorcycle skidded and overturned west of Sidney after the rider swerved to avoid a car without a tail light. They were taken to a Sidney hospital for treatment. Mr. Blackman faced shock and facial injuries while Mrs. Blackman suffered head injuries a facial lacerations and a left arm fracture. The crash occurred around 10:30 Thursday night following glare from a stubble fire and oncoming lights.

Five Million Bushel Wheat Guess Upheld

Two Car Crashes Kill One and Injure Six
A 45 year old Juan Romero of Sterling was killed and four Peetz residents seriously hurt in a 5 30 PM Sunday two car crash on Colorado Highway 13 twelve miles north of Sterling. Four Peetz residents Albert Palmer 40 Frank Cronk 41 Mary Jo Palmer 13 and Lorena Palmer 16 were taken to Denver General Hospital. The Romero vehicle traveling west entered the highway from a side road and was struck broadside by the Peetz car. Damages were heavy and both cars were demolished.

Several fires burned pastures and stubble along the Union Pacific lines between Sunol and Point of Rocks for most of Sunday. Firemen said engine sparks started the blazes aided by a strong south wind. Sidney firemen and UP workers joined in, with alarms beginning about 12:30 pm and continuing after 5:30 pm. No buildings were damaged despite extensive field destruction.

Four Break-Ins Reported Across Cheyenne County Friday
A spree of overnight break-ins in Cheyenne County on Friday suspected to involve one group. Basements of Preble's Grocery and Rudy's IGA in Sidney, DeMers Store at Sunol, and Kripal's Garage at Lodgepole were entered. A Lodgepole house was also prowled. Runaway Boy Is Returned Home From Harvest
A 15 year old Wichita boy, Tommy Cox, returned home Saturday morning after police halted his apparent run with a harvest crew near Adrian, Texas. Sidney police questioned him Thursday night and alerted his parents, who believed him to be in Texas. Cox had joined Kansas harvest workers and headed north before being sent home by the Sidney chief of police.
