Suspect Held in Fatal Sidney Shooting

Sidney police hold a suspect in the fatal shooting of Donald R. Andrews 47, occurring Tuesday evening. authorities released a statement detailing the arrest and ongoing investigation.

Deaths Darkens City with Dual Tragedies

Alar R. Lautersack 30 was found hanged in his basement at 1416 Newton St as police classify the death as self inflicted though County Atty Thomas Sonntag calls it an apparent homicide under investigation with a suspect unnamed. In a separate case, Andrews a retired guard at Western Nebraska Technical College was found shot dead at his 910 Elm St home after a family quarrel later that night.

Sidney S&L permit spurs local building activity

Building activity in Sidney rose last month with permits totaling 330 835 dollars, led by Sidney Federal Savings and Loan’s 210 000 dollar new structure at 16th Ave and King St. Commercial permits reached 245 670 dollars, with two residences and other home improvements adding 964 500 and 20 665 dollars respectively. Year to date permits stand at 616 679 dollars, up from 479 724 a year ago.

Commissioners approve extra funds for county roads budget

Cheyenne County Commissioners boost fiscal 1976 road department funding to 870 295 dollars after adding 100 000 from general and inheritance funds. Holtmans to reign at Lodgepole Old Settlers event

Mr and Mrs Gilbert Holtman named King and Queen of the 51st Old Settlers Reunion at Lodgepole on Aug 31 and Sept 1. The couple, longtime Lodgepole residents and descendants of pioneers, are active in the community with two daughters and seven grandchildren. Their daughter Dixie is co chairman of the event.

NRD budget calls for levy under 0.65 mills

South Platte Natural Resources District approves a 1976 budget of 983,655 with a projected tax levy under 0.65 mills based on 1974 valuations. Expenditures include staff reductions, promotions, legal aid for Oliver Dam projects, and a planned public hearing August 21 at WNTC.

Chamber stalls on I 80 interchange study in Sidney

Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce board met Tuesday and took no action on a proposed south I 80 interchange south of Sidney. The discussion focused on practicality and whether to seek formal study by state and federal highway officials. Bill Vaughn supported public interest, while signs and a future dues structure were also on the agenda.

Old Monroe Land Grant Found Hidden In Family Bible

A 1818 land grant signed by President Monroe naming Joseph Robb 160 acres in Illinois Territory was found pressed inside a family Bible owned by Mrs. C. A. Stark. The document, kept with the 848 page Complete Domestic Bible, lists the tract as military bounty land and describes a creek, rolling hills, and oak hickory timber. Stark will keep the parchment and Bible, while donating older books to the Cheyenne County Historical Association museum.
