Youth Study Shows Encouraging Higher Education Ambitions
The Sidney Council of Youth reports 126 of 144 spring Sidney High and St Pat's graduates surveyed plan further education this fall. Eighty one of the 126 intend college or specialized schooling, with 51 staying in Nebraska and 30 leaving. The University of Nebraska in Lincoln draws 22, Kearney State College 13, and others spread across five Nebraska institutions or out-of-state schools including the Los Angeles Art Institute and Ursuline College. Nine plan military or service education, 12 are or will be married, and 20 of the unmarried will work in Nebraska. Only 61 percent will remain in Nebraska for education or work, a concern echoed by the Nebraska Council of Youth ahead of its Lincoln conference.

Autos Collide At Intersection Near Sunol
A two car crash at 5 p m Tuesday on a county road south of Sunol caused heavy damage. Donna George 26 Lodgepole, driving a 1963 car, and Paul R Sanford 30 Sidney, driving an AT T truck, collided at an intersection. George sustained cuts and bruises and was hospitalized. Damages were 800 to the car and 250 to the pickup.

New Cheyenne County Welfare chief named
A. D. Chambers, Sidney native and World War II and Korean War veteran, was named Tuesday by the county commissioners as acting director of the Cheyenne County Welfare Office. He succeeds Joan Hart, who resigns to join her husband at Fort Riley Kansas. Hart has led the department since 1953.

Sidney school board allocates Title 815 funds to furnishings
The Sidney Board of Education has used nearly all of a $50,000 Title 815 federal allocation for furnishings and equipment in the new addition to Sidney High School. At Monday night’s meeting the board approved purchasing an offset duplicator from Addressograph-Multigraph Corp for $2,262.85, bought with the federal funds. Bids for fencing the renovated tennis courts were opened, with Mel Adams of Horizons Unlimited the low bidder at $2,567 for a 10-foot chain link fence. Nearby residents urged the board to study weed spraying damage to their plants and shrubs, and auditors Fenimore, Gerke and Schafer of Scottsbluff presented a report.

Annual Labor Day Old Settlers Reunion Planning Nears Completion
The Old Settlers celebration in Lodgepole on Labor Day is in final planning stages led by Paul Huff. A 10 am parade along the usual route with floats vehicles and bands will crown Jim Booth and Mary Bauer as King and Queen. A 11 am barbecue by Potter Barbecue Club and Lions Club, followed by an afternoon of free entertainment, a Midway, kids races with Roscoe Bills, and an evening of dancing. An Antique Museum downtown features tools carvings dishes and clothing with sections for displays managed by Mrs. A J Lindley Mrs. Wayne Campbell Mrs. Gertrude Wickard and Mrs. C W Kripal. A four gauge shotgun display by Mr. Fox of Big Springs will be shown along with a school art exhibit.
