Wind Blamed In Wheat Fire Near Lorenzo

Forty acres of wheat were destroyed by fire early Saturday near Lorenzo in land farmed by George Fleming two miles south and four miles west. Peetz and Sidney Volunteer Fire Departments plus neighboring farmers saved about sixty acres. The blaze started after a pole and line blew over during a strong wind and electrical storm. Wheat Belt Public Power District linemen noted the pole dragging lines into the field. Local farmer Glen Fleming woke to the glow and helped alert crews.
