Eight large storage tanks are being erected east of Sidney as part of a 3 million dollar project to distribute gasoline and other products across Nebraska and parts of Colorado and Kansas. Frontier Refining Co and Wyoming Nebraska Pipeline Co lead construction for a 215 mile line from Cheyenne to North Platte with terminals at Sidney and North Platte. Completion is slated for November 1 with Sidney storage near 2 million gallons and North Platte about three times larger.

Mrs. Joan Hart of Sidney heard a cat meow from beneath her hood while driving to work at the Cheyenne County Courthouse. Investigation showed a family pet had settled on the engine block to escape heat, the cat vocalizing at each stop sign as the car cooled and the fan spun.

Pair of Wrecks Leave One Hurt in Cheyenne County
Two Sunday morning crashes on US 30 near Sidney, Nebraska left one person hospitalized with a bruised back and caused about $555 in damage. Mrs Adela Belka, 19, a passenger in a car driven by Mandly Belka, 21, was treated for injuries. The Belkas are from Lodi Wisconsin. Belka worked at a Colton grain elevator. The second crash involved 16 year old Charles Engel of Pacific Palisades California, whose 1954 car rolled into a north borrow pit after he could not slow for a preceding vehicle. no injuries were reported.

Banner County Pipe Line To Boost Oil Output
Banner County plans a new pumping station on the Raymond Grant farm north of Harrisburg to inject Banner County oil into Platte pipeline. Harry Royster of Denver will build the station, lay 12 miles of 8 inch pipe, and install two 25,000 barrel tanks with pumps at a total cost around 400000 dollars. Normal Weather Is Expected In August
The Weather Bureau projects near normal temperatures across most of the central plains after July’s abnormally high heat. The agency notes above normal readings in the western third, the middle and north Atlantic states, and near normal to above normal conditions in the central plains. Rainfall should be subnormal west of the Mississippi but near to above normal east of it, with drier conditions along the Atlantic seaboard north of Virginia.

Heaton Denies Gambling Reentry Charge In Omaha Bid
Democratic candidate P J Heaton of Sidney blasted a Saturday claim that he would permit re entry of bingo in Omaha and ease Nebraska gambling laws if elected governor. Heaton called the accusation ridiculous and said no one has mentioned the subject to him. He noted constitutional amendment would be needed to legalize gambling and that the governor cannot act alone. Heaton will base his campaign in Omaha until election day with speaking engagements across eastern Nebraska amid criticism of Washington and tax policy. Let's Get It Over Sentenced In Cheyenne County Case
Hershel Horton, 25 of Saginaw Michigan, pleaded guilty to uttering a forged instrument and was sentenced to one year in the state penitentiary at Lincoln by District Judge John Kans. Horton was returned after being dismissed from Leavenworth federal prison. Kenneth Carlson’s insufficient funds check charge was dismissed for lack of evidence. Sidney population estimates run around 7,500 to 7,653 with 1,923 residential phones and 1,977 electric meters suggesting growth continues. Postmaster says 7,500 is close. Construction boom includes a new gasoline plant, gas pipelines, a storage terminal, a hospital, and a junior high school.

Lineman Burned, Revived After Electrical Incident near Gurley
Stanley Custer, 22, of Sidney, lineman for Wheat Belt Electric, was knocked unconscious by a live wire while atop a pole near Gurley. He regained consciousness before an ambulance arrived and was taken to Sidney Hospital with a slight shock and possible arm bruise. Crews reported he did not fall, hung by a safety belt, and officials suspect accidental contact with a live wire during a six month Gurley line upgrade.
