Neubauer No 1 in West Sidney reaches 3,000 feet while semi wildcat near 36-15-48 and a rank wildcat near Potter begin drilling. Swearingen No 1 in Kimball County reports oil in two sand benches with a 1,850 barrel oil test.

Planning Commission Sets Tuesday Session in Sidney

The Sidney Planning Commission will hold its first meeting in months at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council room to discuss a proposed master plan to guide Sidney growth. S. R. Deboer of Denver, a city planning consultant, will speak after being invited by the commission. he has prior ties to Sidney on the same project. The plan aims to address traffic, parks, and residential development to meet future expansion.

Dedication Service Sunday for Weyerts Church Building

Immanuel Lutheran Church Weyerts Community will dedicate its fourth worship building with a full Sunday program. The day opens with a farewell at 10 30 a m in the old church, followed by 2 p m dedicatory services with sermons by Rev C Hinkhouse and addresses by Rev E Reinking. Evening service at 8 p m features Rev A C Huth and Rev W Borchardt. A noon basket dinner and coffee hour follow the afternoon rites. The milestone recalls church history from 1885 86 to 1954 with brick structure built after a 1952 congregational vote and 1953–54 cornerstone, laying and ground breaking.

Ten Candidates Named In Race For Queen Title

Play Day Circus Opens Friday At County Fairgrounds

The Play Day Circus for kids and parents is set for Friday August 6 at Cheyenne County Fairgrounds. A professional troupe handles parts of the show while local children star in most acts. Neighbors Reduced No Change Made In County Valuations

Nebraska Equalization Board left Cheyenne County real estate valuations unchanged on Wednesday, one of 34 counties with no adjustment. The board approved cuts in 53 counties and increases in the remaining, while Cheyenne’s taxes will stay near last year due to mill levy tweaks. Motorist Hurt West of Sidney After Car Leaves Road

Charles Tallmage, 21, of Ord ville, suffered a minor skull fracture and facial lacerations when his 1941 car left a county road southwest of Sidney, hitting a ditch. He was hospitalized one day. Nebraska Safety Patrol cited loose gravel as cause, with $300 damage to the vehicle. Henry Oliverious, 14, a passenger in Edwin Rasmussen’s 1951 pickup, sustained a bruised lip and nose as the truck went off City Route 19 near Sidney. No hospitalization. damage about $150.

Chicago Firm To Demolish Big Chimney

City chose Consolidated Chimney Co. of Chicago for 5810 to demolish the Sidney power plant smokestack. Eight bids ranged from 5810 to 12000, with engineer estimate 8000, and concerns about debris control due to nearby buildings and a loose ladder on the top.

Visit to See Girlfri nd Ends With Attack of Polio

A Lowry AFB enlisted man, Airman Joseph C. Walch, 22, traveled by car to Oshkosh to visit his girlfriend. He fell ill with spinal polio, was hospitalized, and evacuated by C-47 to Fitzsimons Army Hospital near Denver. He was not fully paralyzed, but had lower spinal symptoms. The evac plane also carried other ill servicemen from Cheyenne and Rapid City.

Soldier Falls Off UP Train Near Lodgepole

The body of 21 year old Army private Billy J. Capps of Armory Mississippi was found dismembered along the Union Pacific tracks three miles east of Lodgepole Deuel County. Sheriff John Glenn said Capps left Japan August 1 and was returning home likely fell from the City of San Francisco Wednesday night. Investigators found 142.29 in his belongings suggesting no robbery. He fell on the west bound track with his watch stopped between 11 and 12. An inquest is pending.
