Czech History Recalled By South Divide Folk Dancers
A South Divide Czech folk dance group formed as a Centennial project will perform at the Wilber Czech Festival in Wilber Nebraska on August 5 and 6. The four couples, born in the Czech settlement around Lodgepole, rehearse polka and the authentic Annie In The Cabbage Patch dance under Mrs. Eula Zwicki. Nebraska houses a large Czech American population, making the state a Czech center with over 20 percent of US Czech descendants.

Potter Scouts Honor Two Eagle Recipients at Center
Air Force Major Mark Wickhorst, the first Eagle Scout from Potter, and Ron Kiel, the second Potter recipient, joined in a traditional handshake at the Potter Youth Center last Monday night marking nearly 17 years since the first award. Wickhorst earned his Eagle in 1950, a civic-function highlight at the center, while Kiel received his award the same night. Major Wickhorst was in Potter briefly before departing for Thailand. Former Chappell Man Named Top Military Supply Chief
Maj Gen Earl C Hedlund USAF, son of Hulda and Claus Hedlund of Chappell, was appointed director of the Defense Supply Agency by Defense Secretary Robert S McNamara. A Valparaiso Neb native and Deuel County High School graduate, Hedlund holds BS MS and PhD degrees from the University of Illinois and has served as a fighter pilot and commander in World War II and later logistics leader. He succeeds Vice Admiral Joseph M Lyle, who retired after serving as deputy director since 1966.

Sen George H. Fleming, back from the 1967 Nebraska Legislature, appeared on KTVS-TV in Sterling Tuesday. He described legislative accomplishments and his experiences in the session. Fleming plans time at Grand Lake, Colorado, where he and his wife run a motel. He did not say if he would seek reelection in 1968.

City Accepts Pension Plan In Sidney
The City of Sidney plans a pension for all employees except police and five already covered by state law. The cost from taxes is expected to be nominal, with revenues from municipal service funds covering housing, water, sewer, electric and waste departments. Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. won the bid. local agent is C. A. Story Co. Employees contribute 3.5 percent of wages, city matches. Frontier Airlines Tentatively Resumes Sidney Flights Next Tuesday
Frontier Airlines said it expects to resume service to Sidney on a limited basis starting next Tuesday as runway construction conditions improve. With the airport closed for large planes since July 28, taxiway work and concrete pours planned for Monday could allow morning and evening flights to restart on August 8, ahead of a hoped August 15 introduction of the Conviar 580 turboprop.

New Oil Area May Be Found Near Potter Nebraska
Detailed information awaits on an oil drilling venture northeast of Potter that may be a discovery. Montana Petroleum Co. No. 1 Hagemeister produced casing earlier in the week with about 700 feet of drill stem test fluid, largely oil. The site lies near Sutton Field and Henry Field. Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission seeks more information to classify the well as a discovery or field extension. In Cheyenne County’s Won Field, Petroleums Inc. set casing at No. 1 Buhrdorf- B to extend the field south. If commercial, it would produce from the J sand formation, as Cheyenne County remains Nebraska’s busiest oil area this past week.

City wrecks two drivers in Sidney accidents
Elliot W Noteboom 16 of Sidney drove at Palomino and Laredo last Monday and hit Clarence V Stromberg 73, also of Sidney, whose parked car sustained left side damages. Mrs Noteboom was charged with reckless driving. Melinda Phelps 60 had her car parked in Town and Country lot when Mary Kitz 66 backed into it.
