The Army Trans-continental Motor Convoy is due in Sidney on Tuesday afternoon August 5. The Sidney Community Association plans a welcome with the Lincoln Highway in top condition and the Sidney Band leading the convoy into town. The 3200 mile route from Washington to San Francisco marks a historic mobilization, with over sixty vehicles and 290 officers and men.

Fire Destroys $6000 Worth of Wheat Near Lorenzo
Losses mount as M Kremer and Albert Benish report about 160 acres of wheat burned southeast of Lorenzo. Only 20 acres were saved on the shocks and 5 fields of 38 were spared. Estimated yield 25 to 30 bushels per acre. Fire likely started from a backfire of a nearby engine. Cheyenne County Fair directors approve a four day fair from September 10 to 13 with emphasis on agricultural education. Premiums exceed a thousand dollars. Essig Hardware Store transferred to the new Essig Block store room with Rose street cleared of framing materials. Sidney Jockey Club Stables Burn At Fair Grounds
The Sidney Jockey Club suffered about 1500 dollars in losses when the cast section of their stables at the Fair Grounds burned early Wednesday. Fire was started by a passing freight engine on the Union Pacific line. Firemen lacked water to reach the blaze and focused on saving a telephone pole burned by the flames.
