Wheat Yield Surpasses Expectations in Cheyenne County

With most winter wheat harvested, farmers report yields well above last year. Estimates average eighteen bushels per acre, while fields near A Walker farm yield twenty two to twenty five. Eastern sections show lower quality wheat, testing sixty two pounds per bushel, but Cheyenne County expects six million bushels from about 270000 acres, bringing up to ten million dollars into the county and boosting local prosperity.

Rear End Collision on the Burlington

A south bound freight train rear ended the lead section near Sidney station causing extensive damage including wrecked caboose and torqued rails. No crew injuries were reported though a small fire was quickly extinguished. The wreck was cleared after a wrecker from Alliance and service resumed the next day with the usual train reroutes and delays.

Sidney Community Association Forms Strong Backing

The Sidney Community Association directors met Tuesday evening at the courthouse, approving a membership drive and a budget plan. The membership committee added new names to reach about twenty five in an hour, while the budget committee set contributions from local firms from twenty five to two hundred dollars, aiming to raise roughly ten thousand dollars. Joseph Hahler Finishes Fourth in Denver to Cheyenne Race

Joseph Hahler placed fourth in the Denver to Cheyenne auto race promoted by the Denver Times. His Premier Speedl, driven by Harry FP. Bryn of Denver, faced mechanical failures, including multiple broken springs, as he completed seventy miles after difficulties. Prize money for fourth was about two hundred seventy five dollars, with a Sidney firm represented in the event.

District Court Sentences Man for Stealing A Hard Car

Judge I. M. Grimes of North Putte arrived in Sidney to sentence James Alexander Meldrium for stealing a car. Meldrium received a sentence of one to seven years. He served about two and a half years in World War I with British forces and sustained four wounds. Mrs. F. oD. Wooldridge returned from Arlington Wyoming and Mr. B. P. Wooldridge accompanied her for a few days before returning due to bank duties.

Farmers' Union Picnic Set for July 31

The Farmers Union announces a community picnic on July 31 at Nels Olson's grove one mile west of Sidvues with music, speakers, and prizes for best program. Activities include foot races sack races potato races and wholesome entertainment plus ample refreshments and free lemonade. A Sun-Kist fruit demonstration will feature samples for all attendees.

U. S. A. Finishes Installing Scenery at Twin City Theater

Mr. Dales shige, carpenter for Twin City Scenic Co of Minneapolis, finished installing fifteen hundred dollars worth of stage scenery plus a new picture screen and spot light equipment for S&S A. Six scene sets include Garden, Wood, Parlor, Kitchen, Olla, and Street. Wood scene viewed Wednesday night, praised by ACTS. Brewer installed spotlights and promises top music comedies soon. Also three companies touring with about forty singers will stop here for a one night jump out of Chicago. The picture Daddy Longlegs featuring Mary Pickford will be shown next Monday and Tuesday.
