Two Men Arraigned on Assault Charges in Cheyenne County
Clyde Kent of Sterling and Layton Maddox of Sidney faced assault to do great bodily injury and assault and battery charges in Cheyenne County court on Tuesday. Lee Maddox, also involved, pleaded guilty to assault and battery in a separate incident and was fined $100 and costs. Kent’s felony charge carries 1 to 5 years. Maddox faces up to six months and $500 fine. The Hardy case stems from a truck repair bill dispute. Lee Maddox was allegedly attacked last Thursday, with further beating reported on Saturday at the Hardy home. Bonds set at $100. hearings scheduled May 6 for Maddox and May 10 for Kent.

Transient James Payne Held on Intoxication Charge After Accident
James F. Payne, 63, a transient from the Old Soldiers Home in Kansas, was booked on intoxication charges after an accident at a Potter hotel. He reportedly fell from bed, cut himself on a broken glass, and was taken by ambulance to Sidney Memorial Hospital before jail. Payne is described as partially paralyzed and using two canes.
