City approves preliminary budget with levy cut and surplus

Bond Issue Is Rejected By Voters In Cheyenne County
The Cheyenne County Hospital bond issue failed Tuesday in a special election 1861 to 1269 with about two thirds of the last national election turnout. It carried only Huntsman and Ordville precincts outside Sidney and died in Sidney amid narrow margins in Haskell and Sidney Nos. 1 and 2. The Ohio Oil Co promoted Claire Hess to drilling superintendent for the Sidney District effective April 25. Hess, a 1942 hire, has been a Sidney drilling foreman since 1949 and helped bring the first Ohio rig to Cheyenne County after the Mary Egging discovery. Roy A. Troxel will join Sidney as drilling foreman, transferring from Wyoming's Oregon Basin. Ohio now operates three rigs near Sidney with two contract rigs in the district.

Former Resident Jerry V Spencer Dies in Louisville
Jerry V. Spencer aged about 50 died in a Louisville hospital after a stroke on Wednesday. He was the husband of former Sidney resident Helen Peetz and survived by his wife and their infant daughter Mary Therese. His parents in Sidney, Mr and Mrs Peter Peetz, will accompany the body for burial in Sidney. funeral date pending.
