Historical Association Plans Museum Operation In June

The Cheyenne County Historical Association will run the Cheyenne County Historical Museum during Ft Sidney Days in June. Open from June 17 to 22, the museum will display relics under glass, invite county booths, and accept artifacts through June 10. Dues remain $1, with officers elected including Mrs. Grimm as secretary-treasurer and Dick Herman as president.

Electrical Department Trimming Tree Limbs in Sidney

The City of Sidney’s electrical distribution department is trimming tree limbs on the north side of town. Line foreman Tom Burke said yesterday limbs are being trimmed where they pose a danger to electric lines.

Teen-Age Safety Driving Test Set in Sidney

The Sidney Junior Chamber of Commerce hosts a Teen-Age Road-E-O at Sidney High School beginning 9 a.m. with a written exam in the library and driving tests at 11 a.m. on the grounds north of the school. Competitors aged under 26 with licenses, no traffic violations in six months, and both genders may enter for a chance at a champions plaque and a trip to the state contest in Red Cloud June 8-9. Local businesses back the event, with judges including Bill Schulz and Sol Willis and Jaycee Gerald Dow serving as committee chair.

Regional Bar Meet Set In Sidney On June 29

The Western Nebraska Bar Association will hold its annual meeting in Sidney with a June 29 day session at the Sidney Country Club. Pat Heaton Jr. says clinics by Nebraska State Bar Association speakers will cover new 1955 legislation. A banquet will close the day with a stag the night before. Over 100 lawyers judges and officials expected to attend.

Ohio firm hits new producer in Garden County oil patch

The Ohio Oil Co plugged a wildcat near Oshkosh and spudded Loomis N 1 in Garden County. Chandler Musgrove reported Kuyper No 1 near Kimball showing promise with a D sand DST. three other fields saw producers. J M Huber and Magnolia Petroleum also reported new producers, while several wells were dry or plugged.

Third Annual Spring Show Promises Much For Families

The Sidney Farm and Home Spring Show runs May 3 and 4 at the Sidney City Auditorium with three booths unsold. The free two day event features a one hour variety show, hosted by Bill Dungan, with acts Foster and Harris, Curly Miller, and Mr B and his Dolly. Shows are at 2 pm and 8 pm daily with doors opening 1 pm.

Mattoon to Lead Cancer Drive Again in Cheyenne County

Mattoon will direct the American Cancer Society fund campaign in Cheyenne County for 1956 with Jack Knicely as publicity chair. Both men served in similar posts last year. Mattoon cited ongoing cancer toll and praised progress from better public information and medical advances.

Settlement Bid Filed in Rog ers Truck Lines Case

An application for a $7 050 lump sum settlement was filed in Cheyenne County District Court on behalf of Pamela Jean Meroney against Rogers Truck Lines of Sidney. The action cites Pamela as dependent of J D Arnold who was electrocuted in 1955 while employed in oil fields, with guardian Emory Clifford Meroney submitting the claim for one child.

Lodgepole Banker Named To Position

A C Peterson of Lodgepole was named a State bankers convention nominating committee member at the Group Six meeting in Ogallala. The group adopted a motion by A J Jorgenson of Sidney recommending the state banking commissioner salary be increased from 6500 to 8000.

Finest Talent In Concert Monday Night

The Sidney Civic Music Assn presents a Spring Music Festival at the junior high school Monday at eight. The program features the Sidney band conducted by George Hinn performing Wagner’s Overture to Rienzi, the Sidney Men's Chorus, vocal soloists Mrs. William Fankhauser and Jack Knicely, and classic and patriotic numbers. The event opens civic music season activities and replaces the traditional kickoff dinner for the membership drive, with drive dates April 29 to May 4 and two confirmed bookings for next season: Columbus Boys Choir and Johnny Eaton Quartet.

Solon senator opposes Benson wheat price cut in 1958 plan

Local Church To Hear Guest Speaker Sunday

Leonard Sammon, National Benevolent Association rep for the North Central Area of the Christian Churches in Nebraska Minnesota North Dakota South Dakota and Iowa, will be guest speaker at the First Christian Church next Sunday morning. He will be participating in the State Convention of the Christian Churches at Scottsbluff and works through the Iowa Society of Christian Churches with offices in Des Moines Iowa. Jury awards largest civil verdict in Cheyenne history

A Cheyenne County District Court jury ruled Western Utilities 100 percent at fault for a 1954 accident involving Fred Meick of Sidney. The verdict, likely around 40 600 dollars, covers pain and suffering past and future medical costs lost wages and future earnings over 21 years. Miss Ft. Sidney Entrant Carolyn McGirr Aims Pageant

An 18 year old high school senior, Carolyn McGirr, enters the Miss Ft. Sidney Pageant on May 17. She is daughter of James and (Mrs) McGirr, a Cotillion Queen, homecoming candidate, band president, class secretary, and solo drummer noted for superior ratings in district music. She drummed in Ray Young's Combo and will perform trap drumming with organ accompaniment.

City to Hire Dog Catcher for Sidney

Sidney plans a temporary dog catcher program to control stray and unlicensed dogs. City Manager Murrey Fuller announced Gus Widstrand will start around May 1 to patrol with regular police backup, using a likely truck for field operations.
