Cutworms Are Not Threat in Kimball County

County Agent Max Sherwood reports a recent survey found cutworms small and not numerous in Kimball county. Worms stay just below soil surface, are light gray and about an inch long. Farmers urged to watch for signs and act quickly if activity appears.

Reappraisal in Cheyenne County Aims to Equalize Property Values

Max Arnold of Justen Haynes Co announced completion of the urban reappraisal in Cheyenne County and check of 677 Sidney residences. The program will set base values for urban lots and equalize assessments to reduce inequities, with rural lands to be evaluated next using maps, soil data, and cost figures tailored to Sidney.

Sidneyite Fined for Shooting Incident

Kenneth L. Robertson of Sidney was fined 40 plus costs by Cheyenne County Judge C. W. Smith after a court appearance on intoxication and disturbing the peace charges. Deputy Kermit Brumbaugh said Robertson, in a trailer court east of Sidney, argued with his mother over car keys, grabbed a 4-10 shotgun, and fired five rounds though he did not aim at a person or object.

Spring Show Draws 3000 in Sidney

The second annual Spring Show in Sidney drew about 3000 attendees over Friday and Saturday. Sponsored by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce, exhibitors praised the wide variety of booths and strong public response.

Military Day Set At SHS

Col Wayne Wood commander of the Sioux Ordnance Depot will headline Sidney High School's second annual Military Day tomorrow at 1 30 pm in the Sidney Junior High School auditorium. Seniors from Sidney High and from Kimball Lodge Pole Lorenzo and St Patrick will attend along with Army Navy Coast Guard Marines Air Force Waves and Nurses Corps representatives.

Small Boy Injured When Hit By Auto

Donald Morris eight year old son of Mr and Mrs Gene Morris was struck by an auto driven by John Ahim sixty eight of Sidney near Sky Road Saturday night about 915 pm He rode his bicycle north to south across the road when he darted in front of the eastbound car The boy suffered two broken fingers on his right hand and a knee cut requiring six stitches He was not hospitalized.

Civic Music Drive Sees Successful 1956 57 Campaign

Damage to Grass Put on Running

County Agent Ivan Liljegren reports considerable lawn damage in Sidney from dogs running loose. Tests at the University of Nebraska confirm female dogs are the primary cause, with male dogs also blamed. Some patches may recover in weeks. others are killed. Prevention is urged: keep dogs off lawns. Sidney has no leash law. only a general control statute exists, plus Potter’s leash law since April 1.

Two Year Prison Sentence for Nebraska Forgery Case

Elmer Bradley, 54, of Bars ville Oklo, was sentenced to two years in the Nebraska State Penitentiary by District Judge John Kuns Bradley for forgery. Bradley pleaded guilty to writing three bad checks and was taken to Lincoln yesterday by Deputy Bart Taylor after an earlier release this year.

Accident Settlement Approved for Van Anne in Hutchinson Case

Judge John Kans approved a district court lump sum settlement of 1709 dollars for Richard J Van Anne 21 who sued Chalmers Borton of Hutchinson. Van Anne injured his back after falling from a scaffold during construction of the Farmers Union grain elevator at Gurley on July 11 1955 while employed by the Kansas firm.

A Sidney, Ohio engineer at Ohio Oil Co was voted vice-chairman for Nebraska by the American Petroleum Institute division of production at a Denver meeting. Wayne Glenn of Continental Oil Co Denver was elected Rocky Mountain district chairman succeeding R M Churchwell of Ohio.

4-H Spring Party Draws Big Crowd in Gurley Hall

A nearly 500 strong crowd of 4-H members parents and leaders gathered at Gurley Legion Hall for the annual Spring Party. The event featured a $100 Union Pacific scholarship awarded to John Hinrichs by trainmaster W E Henke a talk on The Hitchhiker by Vera Haire and a Conservation talk by Jim Irwin. The circus theme ran through decorations programs and activities with ringmasters clowns canopies balloons hay bales and numerous clubs contributing to planning and execution. Myron Seveland chaired the event with county agent Ivan Liljegren thanking all helpers across many clubs for a successful evening.

License Suspended for Sidney Man in Cheyenne County Court

Jerone Stinley of Sidney was fined 110 dollars plus costs in Cheyenne County Court for driving while intoxicated and no driver's license. Stinley was arrested by the Nebraska Safety Patrol Saturday. Judge W Ent. suspended his license for six months.
