Oil Line Plant At Gurley To Be Enlarged
The Platte Pipe Line plans a major expansion to raise daily hauling capacity to 195 thousand barrels. President Millard K. Neptune announced a 2.7 million dollar program to build four new stations, enlarge five existing ones, and perform work to reach the summer goal. New sites include Moorefield Nebraska Deshler Nebraska Hiawatha Kansas and Bostworth Missouri. Enlarged stations near Gurley Kansas and Gower Missouri will be remotely controlled from Platte’s Kansas City headquarters. The line, completed December 1952, has grown since. Holdrege Nebraska and Gower Missouri stations are under construction, targeting 145 thousand barrels per day upon completion.

Ernest Smith Found Dead in Sidney
The body of Ernest T. Smith, 60, was found at about 11:30 Thursday morning in his small house east of Sidney. Cause of death was a heart attack. He operated a machine shop north of the Mayfair Station and was seen earlier that morning. He was found by Doyle Sizemore and Everett Shelley. He has a brother Ote Smith of Sidney as his only immediate survivor. The body is at The Gehrig and Son Funeral Home.
