A week starting April 26 is proclaimed Clean-Up Week in Sidney by Mayor J. Fred Thompson. City departments will cooperate with residents to sweep streets and alleys, with specific pickup routes and alley blading. Five-vehicle Easter weekend crash spree in Cheyenne County

A three week initial drought of major accidents ends with a rash of five highway wrecks over Easter weekend in Cheyenne County. Two children, Cynthia and Carolyn Darnsteadt, suffer serious injuries while Corliss Darnsteadt and others escape with varying injuries. accidents included a stalled 1953 Ford taxi struck by a Streamliner train, a 1951 Ford rollover near Ordville, a drunken driving arrest in Fort Morgan, and a two-car collision on Highway 30 east of Sidney with injuries to the Darnsteads.

Record of Large Damage Award in Potter Truck Crash

In a Potter area case, a district court jury ordered large monthly awards to two Hagler children from the 1953 crash near Point of Rocks. Sidney High School announced the fifth six weeks honor roll with freshmen leading by placing 17 of 36 named students. The list shows four seniors, six juniors, nine sophomores, and seventeen freshmen with various A grades and B grades across classes.

Rites Held For Potter County Farmer Arthur Johnson

Services were held in Sidney for Arthur Johnson 41 prominent Potter community farmer who died Friday from a self inflicted gunshot wound. The Craig Mortuary heard Rev Keller of Kimball officiate with soloist Jack Knicely Ruth Wallis. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers Ray Wills Mike Tucker Nels Johnson Floyd Brothers Harold Kehn. Survivors include widow two daughters Marlene Kathleen brother Melvin Phoenix Ariz sister Mrs William Eber Avalon Calif. Johnson born January 12 1913 near Dix. He lived on farm northeast of Potter 15 years. He was United Lutheran Church member and Mason member. He died after wife and daughters left farm to attend Good Friday cantata. He called a friend who found him upstairs with a .32 pistol.

Peetz Lions Benefit Skit Night Thursday

Peetz Lions club presents a Hospital Benefit Skit Night at 8 pm in the Peetz Legion Hall featuring acts musical numbers and comedy by local citizens. Weather note: Easter weekend warmth ends with drizzle

A cold front brought showers and gusty winds ending the warm spell. Easter weekend highs reached about 80 degrees with a low around 31, then temperatures dipped to 39 early Monday before warming to 41 by midmorning. Dust storms sporadically reduced visibility.

Sheriff Returns St. Paul Prisoner

Deputy Sheriff Bart Taylor traveled to St. Paul Minnesota to retrieve Kenneth A. Morris who is sought by Cheyenne County authorities on several charges including writing bad checks taking a mortgaged car from the area without permission and nonpayment of child support.

Super Road Surveys Set This Week

A Nebraska planning group led by L N Ross meets in Lincoln to study the proposed four lane interstate from Omaha through Lincoln Grand Island to the Wyoming border. The federal share up to 60 percent could reach about 4 million for the stretch, with Nebraska required to match. The three day tour will inspect Lincoln to Omaha and Lincoln to North Platte segments along US 6 US 34 and US 30 corridors.

No. 1 Lobb Discovery Opens Gas Pool in Nebraska

Ohio Oil Co opens a new natural gas pool in southwest Cheyenne County near Lorenzo. The No. 1 Lobb produced 3.02 million cubic feet per day in tests from depths around 4,918 feet, with a second test at 2.82 million. Other wells announced include No. 1 Rezac for Loffland Brothers, No. 1 Edna Wilson by Derby Oil Co, and No. 1 Rohlfing nearby. Oil and gas discoveries extend in Doran Farms, Robirds, and Dorman areas, with additional completions and tests noted for Dimery No. 3 and Haupt No. 2. A new wildcat, E M Voss No. 1, flowed oil in Kimball County in the D sand, indicating potential new fields southeast of Dix.
