Road Vet to Retire After 32 Years in State Highways
John W. Billeter of Sidney plans retirement May 1 after 32 years with Wyoming state highways. A former Cheyenne County engineer and longtime resident engineer for Kimball Cheyenne Devel and Garden counties, he started with the highway department in 1926 and earned a state professional engineer license. The final dates for repaying CCC loans on 1952 grain crops and stored commodities have been set. University of Nebraska economist Libeau says payments for wheat oats barley rye flax seed rice dry edible beans hay and pasture seed except range grass seed must be made by April 30 1953. Grain sorghum loans due March 31. Soybeans June 1 corn July 31 range grass seed Sept 30. If unpaid the commodities become property of the United States under current law.

The Nebraska Fish and Game Commission announced the first antelope season in Cheyenne County for September 12 to 16 with 150 permits. A statewide deer season was approved in 24 counties, including Cheyenne, split into five areas with 5,300 permits and two Decembers of hunting, bucks only on select days and all deer on later dates. Applications open later and only for one specified area.

Poppy Day Observed In Sidney Nebraska May 2
Poppy Day will be observed Saturday May 2 in Sidney and across Nebraska. Mrs Rena McClenegan president of Unit No 17 of the American Legion Auxiliary announces the drive to wear memorial poppies and donate to disabled veterans and veteran children. Poppies will be distributed on the streets by Auxiliary volunteers. they are made by disabled veterans in Nebraska Veterans Hospitals and Soldiers and Sailors homes, providing work and income for them and their families. Wearing a poppy supports rehabilitation and child welfare programs run by the Legion and Auxiliary.

Man Admits Rape Given Prison Term
Lloyd Brown, 40, Proctor, Colo., pleaded guilty to statutory rape and was sentenced Monday to three years in the Nebraska State Penitentiary for assault on a 12 year old Logan County girl on March 22. Judge John Kuns handed down the sentence as Sheriff Schulz noted Brown may finish affairs before surrendering next Monday to Lincoln.
