Volunteers Drive Day Care Center Plan in Sidney Nebraska
Volunteers lead a proposed Sidney Nebraska Day Care Center to aid working mothers and reduce child care costs. The project seeks 40000 dollars in federal funds with in kind contributions covering about ten percent of costs. The center would initially serve 22 children ages two to five with a paid director and a policy board including parents and local officials.

92 Year Old Ernest Baack Celebrates Lifelong Nebraska Roots
The 92nd birthday of Ernest Baack was honored with a family dinner at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Potter Nebraska. A retired farmer, Baack lived with his daughter at 2144 Maple since 1947 after farming near Seward and northwest of Potter. He recalls the 1930s as hard times but credits 40 acres of potato farming with keeping him going. Baack is active at the Senior Citizens Center and has served as an elder at St. Pauls Lutheran Church for 15 years among other community roles. He and his wife raised a large family with 28 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren sustaining a deep local legacy.

Sidney police investigated three intersection accidents over the weekend with no injuries. The Saturday crash at 10 15 a m involved Robert Jobman driving east on Linden Street colliding with Cory Fehringer northbound on 10th Avenue. The Sunday incident at 3 30 p m had Margie Lurber eastbound on Newton colliding with Geraldine Pritch southbound on 23rd Avenue.

Neighbors discovered the body. she was the widow of George Northrup who died years ago. The body remains at Craig Holeciek Funeral Home as children are sought.

Rites Planned for Emmett V. Arnold Thursday
Emmett V. Arnold 71 died Saturday at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. R. R. Vanderemate officiating. Interment follows at Greenwood Cemetery. Arnold, born March 9 1899 in Stockville Nebraska, lived in Sidney since 1942 and worked as a painter. He is survived by his widow Opal Welch Arnold, a son Emmett Jr., three daughters Blanch Wiand Trixie Stark and Sharon Fulton, nine grandchildren, a sister Welda Sawyer and two brothers Dean and Cletus. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, and two brothers.
