Day Care Center Fund Request Sent to OEO for Sidney Pilot

A request for nearly 40000 to establish Nebraska Panhandle first Day Care Center in Sidney moves to the Office of Economic Opportunity in Kansas City. If approved, remodeled Sioux Villa units will house the center with 22 children enrolled. Local in kind support totals about 13000 in services and facilities.

Shooting Case Continues for Nebraska Man Deaver

The state case against 24 year old Robert J. Deaver of Sidney continues with a preliminary hearing pending in county court. Deaver, charged with shooting with intent to kill his wife Correne, is undergoing pre hearing examination with G. F. Bush as public defender. transfer to district court remains possible.

Spring Visit Ends With Chilly Damp Wake

A brief Spring visit ended overnight as morning dawned cold and damp. An unsettled day brought rain and snow showers that disrupted outdoor plans including a track meet. Temperatures ranged from 25 to 31 with 0.25 inch precipitation by late morning.

Six Will Confer At US Capitol

A six person local delegation will depart Monday April 27 for Washington DC for meetings with government officials and the Nebraska Congressional Reception at the Madison Hotel. Participants include Sidneys Mayor Bob Hossle and Dou g Boyd with others from Cheyenne County chambers and public power. The group will meet with lawmakers and agency officials including Rep Martin Senators Hruska and Curtis and transportation and economic offices.

Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce retail committee meets to push a June 4 to 6 trade fair in the former Cheyenne County Lumber building at 12th and Illinois. The fair ties to the county centennial with booths prizes and food by the Ladies Chapter. Council action to curb out of town rug and photo vendors is approved with representatives named to lobby Sidney officials. Centennial window painting by county high school art students will be paid.

Million-Dollar Plan For Sidney Draw Most Costly

A Cheyenne County RC&D priority list names the Sidney Draw flood-control project as the costliest item at about one million dollars. Other top projects include Lodgepole Lake at the I-80 interchange, Lodgepole youth camp funding, a Dalton pool, a Sioux Army Depot museum, a 300-acre park near the Vo-Tech, and a Point of Rocks recreation state park study. The plan reflects countywide efforts led by the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce to guide recreation and conservation development.

At noon today the three Apollo 13 astronauts were welcomed aboard the Iwo Jima after days of worldwide concern. The relief follows NASA crews and the astronauts’ skill, with gratitude to the Great Engineer in the Sky for a miraculous return.
