Scale Model Reveals Sid ney Junior High Design Plans
A scale model of the new Sid ney Junior High School, a $300000 building designed by architect Eugene Sternberg, recently arrived from Denver for display to the board of education. Final plans will be presented May 15. The two story structure on a lot east of the senior high will face 19th Avenue and include a 1500 to 1800 seat auditorium that will serve as both theatre and gym. The building will relieve enrollment by housing ninth through eighth grades, replacing the need to enlarge the senior high. Sternberg also designed the South Side Grade School.

Assessor Office To Stay Open Saturday
The County Assessor's office will remain open Saturday after noon until five o'clock to accommodate latecomers who have not completed assessment declarations. Assessor Roy Gish said the office has been jam packed all week and people have until April 20 to be assessed without a fifty percent penalty. Approximately two thousand persons had not yet been assessed earlier this week.

Mother and Baby Hurt In Hit and Run Crash
A Sidney mother Alton Pipkin 18 and her two month old son John Alton were injured when a pickup driven by Fidel Vasquez Rios 20 of Sterling struck their car on Colorado 113 two miles north of the US 138 junction. Rios was charged with drunken driving hit and run and failure to yield. Pipkin and baby were hospitalized with injuries described as mild for the mother and not serious for the infant.

CAP Meeting Here April 24-25
The Sidney unit of Civil Air Patrol met at the airport to plan the upcoming Search and Air Rescue meet set for April 24 25. Twenty five North Platte cadets will handle fueling and parking while CAP Headquarters Lowry liaison officers hide the plane for the exercise. Planes and personnel are due to arrive around noon Saturday with registration 12 to 4 pm. A 6 am Sunday breakfast, a 7 30 am downtown drill, and 7 30 am flight search begin. A ground crew will simulate rescue after locating the hidden craft. CAP women will run a concession at the airport and courtesy cars will transport attendees. A special meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 30 pm at the airport.

Garbage truck blaze started by ashes in street alley
Sidney volunteer firefighters were summoned around 9 30 Wednesday morning after a City garbage truck fed by a can of hot ashes burned in the alley between Quince and Rose Streets. Fire began to smoke and burst into flames when the truck contents were dumped into the alley.
