The Scottsbluff Weather Bureau expected light rain and snow with between a quarter and half an inch of new moisture, followed by a plunge in temperatures to the 25 to 35 degree range. Easter Sunday was noted as a potential peak for rainfall with additional precipitation possible Sunday or Monday.

Negotiations with Chester Johnson of Mullen to build a motel hotel on the corporation’s Ninth Avenue and Jackson property continued, but no financing report was provided. Final Day To Order Young Trees In Cheyenne County
Cheyenne County farmers must place orders for young trees by Friday. Bill Mutter, Cheyenne County Soil Conservation District conservationist, says spring planting conditions are ideal with good moisture and seed beds. Demand is below last year. 95 acres were planted in 1956. Broadleaf trees cost 3 dollars per hundred, with the district planter at six cents per planting. The cost sharing program allows farmers to receive six cents for each tree planted from the government. Other species cost slightly more.

Masked gunman robs Frontier Service Station near Sidney
An armed robbery at Frontier Service Station east of Sidney netted about 230 dollars. A handkerchief masked man in blue and white striped coveralls, a brown stocking cap, and a white mask fled after threatening attendant John Keltner. Sheriff Schulz described a man under 30, about six feet tall, 180 to 190 pounds, wearing a nickel plated .22 gun. Temperature 44 degrees at 2:30 am. No vehicle seen.

Rude awakening on Highway 30 spares driver injuries
Mt. Vernon teen William Coultas, 18, of Iowa, slept at the shoulder of Highway 30 four and a half miles west of Sidney after veering off the road. Donald Peters, 22, of Trailer City, driving west into Sidney, struck Coultas’ car in the rear while attempting to light a cigarette. No injuries reported. total damage about 325 dollars.

Willist James Shanks, 48, jailed in Cheyenne County for driving with fictitious plates, remains under a 15 day sentence.
