A 1 inch lawn mower will be given away with door prizes and free coffee and cookies for guests.
Sidney police investigated a minor accident Monday night at 9 p m. Raoul Nelson of 2367 King backed from his driveway and struck a parked car owned by Martha Wills of 2652 Alvarado.
In Chapell, over one hundred attendees heard Senator Clifton Batchelder explain his gubernatorial bid and defend his stance on state finances. He argued for a manager’s approach to reduce budgets to essentials and enforce laws while favoring a two party system for state Senate elections.
The groundbreaking at Lodge Pole Valley Youth Camp, Inc. near Sidney is planned for 10 30 a m Saturday with Ivan Liljegren as host. Wes Antes will speak, the Sidney High School Band will perform, clergy will offer invocations and benediction, and a luncheon follows.
D and F Electric opened in Sidney with Dick Babcock as owner and operator. The firm will handle residential and commercial electrical contracting. Babcock, former Western Nebraska Vocation Technical School instructor, has ten years of electrical experience and is coach of the Junior Legion baseball team. He and his wife Frances and two daughters live at 2463 Monterey.
Partly cloudy skies expected this afternoon tonight and Thursday with a chance of light snow showers in the northern area. Highs in the 30s to mid 40s, lows around 20s to 30s, and a near zero precipitation chance through Thursday. Friday to Sunday outlook calls for warmer temps and a chance of rain possibly mixing with snow with highs in the 50s and 60s and overnight in the 20s.
The Western Nebraska Vocational Technical School holds its annual graduation Friday at 2 p.m. in WMTS Auditorium. Forty four graduates receive degrees or certificates with Cecil Stanley Nebraska Commissioner of Education as main speaker. School director Merle Rudebusch presides and Rev. Edward Flinn conducts invocation and benediction. Degrees are awarded by Glen Strain. Graduates listed by department include Auto Body, Auto Mechanics, Aviation Maintenance, Building Construction, Electronics, Mechanical Design and Drafting, and Trucks Mechanics Technology with graduates from Bassett Hemingford Scottsbluff Wiggins and other communities.
Nebraska State Highway Commission announces a May 19 hearing in the Municipal Building City Council Room at 1 30 p m to decide the location of the east Sidney I 80 interchange The interstate route itself is not under review and testimony may be given in person written statements and exhibits accepted for 10 days after the public hearing
The Cheyenne County labor survey led by the Ladies Division of the Chamber of Commerce and volunteers excludes Sidney. A 7 p.m. meeting at the Chamber office aims to organize workers over 16 for a countywide door to door and phone canvass. Questionnaires are unsigned and employment status will not be jeopardized. The effort seeks an accurate labor availability picture to guide industrial prospects.
Robert Rex roth vice Chairman of the County ASC Committee announced that a new wheat-wheatgrass cross can now be grown on conserving base acreage. The grass is sterile and does not produce grain and may be used for silage green crop haying or grazing. Previously it was considered feed grain and not covered by wheat and feed grain program provisions.
The Nebraska Wyoming Wheat Growers Association schedules an executive meeting on Sunday April 19 at 7 30 p m and a regular session on Monday April 20 at 9 30 a m both at the Ramada Inn in Ogallala. The Wheat Hearts also to meet at the same times and location.
Virginia Hayes of Devel County and Bruce Brauer of Cheyenne County named outstanding 4-H members in the Wheatbelt Public Power District area. They earned an all expense paid Washington, DC trip in early June and will join Nebraska delegates in Lincoln.
