Willis James Shanks 48 alias C F Gardner jailed 15 days in Cheyenne County Jail by County Judge C W Smith on charges of driving with fictitious plates. He claimed ties to Geophysical Exploration Co with offices in Dallas Ft Worth and planned to hire space for three seismograph trucks and 36 men. Cars from Colorado and Utah plates found, with pay stubs from a Dallas firm. Wisconsin felony warrant tied to a bad check for a plane title and Shanks had used multiple addresses.

Potter man dies of heart attack at 40

Fredrick D. Hruza 40 of Potter died last night at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital after a two week illness from a heart attack. He worked as an interviewer at the Nebraska State Employment Service. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church Potter with burial in Potter cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Heart fund. He was born May 3 1916 on a farm near Potter and is survived by his wife Elsie Virginia Nelson of Denver, a son Michael 12, sister Phyllis Hruza of Dix and brothers Francis of Peetz Merle of Potter and Rodney of Licite Wyo.

Michigander Pleads Innocent To Charges

John C. Boettcher, 46, of Menominee Michigan, pleaded innocent in Cheyenne County Court Saturday to petit larceny and becoming habitual criminal. He was arrested March 26 for allegedly stealing gloves in a Sidney clothing store.

Lorenzo Voters to Decide on $15,000 School Bond

Patrons in the Lorenzo school district will vote tomorrow on a $15,000 bond issue to build a one room addition and relocate the cafeteria. Bonds carry 2.75 percent interest. Polls open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lorenzo school house.

Judge Fines Sidney Woman for Yield Violation

A Sidney housewife Mrs Fern Lambert was fined 25 dollars and costs by Police Judge Glenn Greenlee after being found guilty of failure to yield the right of way. The collision occurred Friday on Illinois Street near 20th Avenue when Lambert turning left from the far lane struck Ralph Guerra 39 of SOD in the inside lane. Damage totaled about 75 dollars, confined to Lambert’s car.

Cheyenne County welcomes spring as fair, mild conditions return after weeks of moisture and cool temperatures. The Scottsbluff Weather Bureau forecasts daytime highs in the 60s and overnight lows in the 30s with light showers possible Friday and Saturday.

Rep Miller Named Irrigation Leader in Congress

Rep. A. L. Miller of Nebraska was named chairman of the irrigation and reclamation committee of the National Rivers and Harbors Congress. Youth Given Five Day Jail Sentence For Reckless Driving

A 16 year old Ordville youth Richard Kierman was jailed five days and fined $25 in Sidney Po lite Court for reckless driving. He struck a bed of Lodgepole Creek after his 1953 model car veered off 19th Avenue with lights off. Passenger Ronald Prue was uninjured and the car totaled.

Ex Sidney resident dies in Montana motorcycle crash

Merwin C. Niemoller, 46, formerly of Sidney, was killed in a motorcycle crash about 40 miles from Great Falls, Montana. He worked as a car body repair man in Great Falls and funeral arrangements are pending at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home. He was born December 9, 1910, in Belgrade Nebraska and grew up in Sidney. Survivors include his parents and a brother. a brother and sister preceded him in death.

Early Grads To Be Recognized At Party In Sidney

Graduates and former teachers from the Sidney school system are invited to a 7 45 p m program at the junior high school auditorium marking the 100th anniversary of the National Education Association. Illinois Street Power Line Relocated for West Illinois Street

The Sidney electrical distribution department finished relocating a power line previously along the north side of Illinois Street from 19th Avenue to 23rd Avenue. Installed in 1929 by Western Public Service Co. the line now runs on Hickory Street to better serve businesses on west Illinois Street.

Local Mail Carriers Face Heavy Load After Saturday Closure

Sidney city mail carriers were loaded with backlog as the post office closure on Saturday disrupted home and business delivery. Sidney Junior High wins music honors Saturday

The Sidney Junior High Band and Mixed Chorus plus instrumental groups and a soloist earned top ratings at the junior high and grade school music contests in Sterling. Rodney Vaughn on oboe won superior plus as outstanding soloist. Mixed chorus was excellent. Western Nebraska and northeastern Colorado entries totaled 169 band members under George Hinn and Roger Epley. six member mixed chorus led by William Fankhauser.

Prominent Alliance Citizens Die in Week

Last week Alliance mourned two prominent residents. Walter J. Jones, 56, former mayor for four years and eight years on the City Council, longtime realtor and secretary treasurer of Alliance Building and Loan for a decade, funeral held Saturday. Dr George J. Hand, 81, physician in Alliance from 1904 to about three years ago, funeral held today. He once conducted Alliance boxing classes attracting hundreds of youths to the sport.
