Tenth More Water in Wheat Fields
Moisture determinations by the department of agronomy show 10 percent more moisture in wheat fields and 0.5 percent less in alfalfa at the University Farm this spring. Compared to last year, five months of precipitation are 4.08 inches lower. Alfalfa moisture is more evenly distributed in the top six feet and unlikely to evaporate quickly, while wheat moisture concentrates in the top three and a half feet and unlikely to move downward. With this moisture, wheat should grow well unless May and June prove very dry.
