Apparent Solution Reported For Two 1954 Robberies
Bart Taylor, Cheyenne County deputy, said FBI arrested Billy Moncrief, 22, of Sterling in the Potter Ross Hardware robbery. Moncrief allegedly admitted to the Potter job and the Nov 22 1934 Sidney Frontier Service Station theft. He implicated Victor Caylor in both crimes. Both suspects had prior custody and related trials. Moncrief’s case was dismissed for lack of witnesses and Caylor’s for lack of evidence.

Child Killed in Rock Slide Near Sidney
David William Kettler an 11 year old boy died when a boulder crushed him while exploring a rock outcrop two miles southwest of Sidney. The accident occurred about 10 am Saturday as he crawled into a cave seeking bones. Surgeons medical staff reported skull fracture and two broken legs. Funeral services set for 9 am Wednesday at St Patrick's Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include his parents a brother and two sisters. Grandparents and a paternal great grandmother are named. Pallbearers listed and rosary before services at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home.

Coroner's Jury Rules Accident In Earnhart Auto Crash
A six member Cheyenne County coroner's jury ruled the death of William C. Earnhart an accidental motor vehicle crash. Earnhart 23 of Lodgepole died April 7 when his car left a gravel road eight miles northeast of Sidney and flipped. Driver Kenneth Oaken 19 and his sister Gladys 16 were lightly injured. Joyce Rogers 16 suffered two fractured vertebrae.

New 4850 Horsepower Engine Shipped To Sidney Plant
The Sidney Power Plant will receive a 4,850 horsepower engine this week. City Manager Murrey Fuller says it is shipped on seven railroad cars, with the largest piece weighing 105,000 pounds. The ten cylinder unit nearly doubles the plant’s capacity and aims to prevent future shortages. Unloading will occur along the Union Pacific track north of Hickory Street between the 12th Ave crossing and an unloading dock, with interior remodeling taking another four to six weeks.

The Wheatbelt Public Power District annual meeting drew 279 adults in the morning with over 350 attending lunch. William Schaffert of Dalton addressed the crowd as president of the Western Nebraska Organized Agriculture. Jimmy Ellis of Denver performed entertainment while a closed circuit TV kept members engaged. Door prizes went to numerous members including John O'Dell Oshkosh Albert Wallace and Bertha Barr.

The Sidney Telegraph was named best among larger non-dailies in Nebraska at the Nebraska Press Association convention. In Class 4 for towns over 2000 population, The Telegraph earned first place in general excellence for news and editorials, page makeup, advertising, and display. Two Iowa and two Illinois judges evaluated the entries. Six papers were cited as outstanding, with The Telegraph topping the field.

Four injuries from Cheyenne County weekend car crashes
Over the weekend four people were injured in Cheyenne County vehicle crashes. Gus Widstrand 33 of Sidney and two passengers were hospitalized after a late Saturday wreck on 19th Ave and Osage St. A separate crash near Potter injured Verlee Schreiner 17. Clarence Motes 35 of Sidney faced reckless driving charges after a collision on 13th Ave. Damages ranged from 400 to 800 dollars with a total loss for the Trove Conlogue vehicle. A hit and run damaged Walter Hall's parked car and a windshield was broken from inside a Lone Pine trailer court unit.
