Sidney High School musicians lead the western Nebraska district music contest in Chadron with 13 superior and eight excellent ratings. Honors announced include soloists, duets, trios, quartets, and sextets across instrumental and vocal categories from Jim Nielsen to Dianne Hinrichs and Roger Worrell, as competition continued.

Hospital Advisory Board Praises Cheyenne County Facility

State Hospital Advisory Board praised Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital after a thorough inspection on Wednesday night. Vern Pangborn of the Department of Health led the tour and called the hospital extremely well run. He said Sidney hospital is a bright star in the state and thanked Administrator Frank Harris and the kitchen staff for a fine meal during the visit.

William H. Juedes 75 of Potter dies in Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital after two weeks of hospitalization and recent surgery. Funeral at Gehrig & Son with Rev. Eleven Entries Assured In Miss Nebraska Pageant Here

Sidney reports eleven local chapters have confirmed sending winners to the Miss Nebraska Pageant. Chadron Hartington Lincoln Scottsbluff Wakefield Chappell Alliance Omaha O'Neill Columbus and Sidney will participate with five or six more expected by the May 1 deadline. The pageant will be held over two evenings with talent and poise Monday one night and bathing suit personality and final judging the second night. A 1,200 seat capacity exists for each evening in the new junior high building. Miss America 1955 Sharon Kay Richie will preside during an extended Italian tour stop after winning Miss Colorado last year.

Inquest Scheduled Tomorrow Morning

A six man coroner’s jury is set to convene at 9 30 am in the district courtroom in Sidney for an inquest into the Saturday night traffic death of William C. Earnhart 23 of Lodgepole who was a passenger when a car left the road and struck a ditch bank Funeral services for Earnhart were held Wednesday This is the first Sidney inquest since 1953.

Oil Rig Quietly Staged At Rogers Truck Lines Yard

New Vapor Bulbs Installed in Sidney District

First in a series of mercury vapor bulb replacements was completed yesterday on Tenth Ave. The update, part of the lighting system overhaul installed nearly four years ago, includes washing the lamps. Additional bulbs are planned for Tenth Ave between Hickory and Jackson and on Illinois St from Eighth Ave to 12th.

Rep Miller backs farm bill as good overall

Rep Miller says the farm bill has more good in it than bad and hopes President Eisenhower will sign it. He notes the dual parity provision helps farmers financially and has received many calls from wheat farmers urging passage, though some provisions are not ideal.

Deadline Extended for Federal Tax Returns This Monday

Record Making Dodge to Be Shown at Sidney Spring Show

Elwell Motors announced the Bonneville Dodge will be exhibited at the Sidney Spring Show on April 20 and 21. Armory Contract Approved for Sidney Project

The National Guard Bureau approved the low bid for a Sidney armory with work to begin within ten days and finish in 320 days. Sutherland Construction Co. of Colorado Springs bid 189,235 dollars, higher than the engineer’s estimate, and will oversee the project east of Legion Park near KSID. Col. W. E. McConaughy will meet the contractor to stake the site.

Marie Runge to Manage Sidney Country Club

Marie A. Runge will become manager of Sidney Country Club on Saturday April 21, replacing Ed Brooks who has purchased a Denver business.
