Ed Swanson led with a score of 99 with one miss in the assessor qualification exam taken by all assessors and deputies. His deputies Elsie Carleton and Opal Brauer scored in the high 80s. A 1969 legislature law requires state revenue certification for assessors. Four county assessors and 13 deputies failed and will retake on Sept 24. Trooper John Trenerry of the Nebraska State Patrol warned Sidney audiences that marijuana is present in Nebraska and that youth in Cheyenne County are a principal target for drug peddlers. He cited a northeast Nebraska grower who shipped $70 000 of marijuana to California and noted suppliers in Scottsbluff Cheyenne and Denver with Denver traffic reaching Sterling. Trooper Apprehends Runaways in Nebraska Interstate Stop
Trooper Max Ibach of the Nebraska State Patrol stopped a speeding car at the west edge of Chappell on Friday. In custody are Debbie Gillilane sixteen from Reseda California cousin Glen Johnson AWOL since February fourteenth from Fort Ord California and John Michael Whitner seventeen from Northridge California. Gillilane will be placed in the Scottsbluff Juvenile Detention Center while Johnson and Whitner wait at Dever County Jail Chappell. Parents plan to collect Miss Gillilane and Whitmer as army authorities take Johnson.
