Cheyenne County Centennial Association plans a June 4 to 7 celebration led by Burgett Peetz as chair and Lyle Mather as secretary with Ben Belden treasurer. Events include parades, dances, a historical pageant, go cart races and a county history display.

Vo Tech Family Concept Plan Near Final Stages

Federal officials and State Senator Robert Clark met with Western Nebraska Vocational Technical School to finalize the Family Education Complex plan. The project would bring 50 families to the school for combined vo tech classes, home management training, and public school for children with Head Start. federal funding only, target Sept 1 1970 arrival, proposals due May 1.

Bank names four promotions at American National Sidney

The Board of Directors of American National Bank in Sidney announced four promotions this week. Jack Flohr advances to Commercial Loan Officer after three years in Installment loans. Jerry Dykman becomes head of the Installment loan center from auditing. David Peetz replaces Dykman as auditor after three years as Drive‑in bank manager. Jerome Buehrer moves from Drive‑in to manager there.

Two Accidents Reported in Sidney Cars Damaged

Sidney police investigated two two car crashes. At 5:15 p m on 11th Avenue between Jackson and King Streets Mrs Milt Handsel backing from the curb struck Ann Schaaf riding north on Newton Avenue. No injuries and about 25 dollars damage to Handsel and 175 to Schaaf. Earlier at 8:05 a m near 10th and Elm Eva Sautner eastbound on Elm hit a truck driven by Charles Thompson from 15th Avenue. No injuries and about 200 dollars damage to Sautner and 170 to Thompson.

Cheyenne County Chamber Plans Trade Fair and Fireworks

The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce board discussed a July 4 countywide fireworks display, a revived Trade Fair June 4-6 tied to the Cheyenne County Centennial, and NEBRASKAland Days in North Platte. They also debated highway routing concerns and urged local bond requirements for outside firms.

Junior-Senior High School Registration Starts Monday

Registration for the 1970 71 school year will begin Monday April 13 at the junior and senior high schools according to Ralph Spencer guidance director. Changes are planned in some curriculum areas with American History for sophomores and juniors next year and a state aligned Social Studies program.

Local Cancer Drive Needs Volunteers Monday Evening

Workers will canvass the Sidney residential area next Monday evening in the annual fund drive for cancer. Chairmen Mrs. S. J. Simmerman and Mrs. Alver DeWitt announce meeting at Dr. Paul Adkinson's office 835 15th at 6 p.m. to receive materials and begin concentrated solicitation. The drive is sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 610.

REA Loan Granted for Highline Electric Service Area

Congressman Dave Martin announced a 91 765 000 Rural Electrification Administration loan to Highline Electric Association of Holyoke Colorado. The funds will extend service to seven southwest Nebraska counties Chase Deuel Dundy Hayes Hitchcock Perkins and Red Willow. The loan covers 163 miles of new distribution line and transmission facilities and system upgrades benefiting about 474 000 dollars in Nebraska area service.

Two Hurt In Crash South Of Dalton

Two men injured in a one car crash on a curve south of Dalton near Walton. Driver Sidney Van Aelstyn 27 swerved to avoid dogs, car rolled into ditch. Passenger Fred Johnston 38 of Sidney remains hospitalized with cuts bruises and possible back injuries. Vehicle a 1970 Mustang was totally demolished.

Progress In Membership Drive Told

The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce and its Ladies Auxiliary report steady progress toward a 500 member goal with 50 new members targeted. Ed Cole said the drive is led by Ed Haupt and Mrs J W Vaugh with 20 new members already signed including businesses and local services. Those not yet contacted are urged to contact the Chamber office.

I 80 Spur Work Okayed At Chappell

Initial work begins March 4 on grading and graveling 8.9 miles of Interstate 80 from west of the Chappell interchange to west of Lodgepole interchange. Werner Construction of Hastings won a 1.233 million dollar contract. Grading should finish around early May next year. Project engineer is R. E. Benson of Sidney.

Pennycrest a Threat to Wheat Fields

Lincoln Nebraska farmers are urged to inspect wheat fields for pennycress a weed pest. University extension weed specialist Lauren Robison warns only a short time remains to apply chemicals effectively and notes additional weeds such as shepherds purse and tansy mustard may appear early.

Fund Raised for Doyle Children in Nebraska Alliance Effort

The remains of LeRoy Doyle aged 30 killed north of Dalton on March 28 were sent to Burke South Dakota for funeral rites and burial in Gregory South Dakota. He leaves a widow and five children. Truckers in the area started the Doyle Children Fund at Guardian State Bank in Alliance Nebraska for contributions.

Weed control guidance for winter wheat and buckwheat

Robison urges spraying now to control wild buckwheat in winter wheat but warns higher herbicide rates raise injury risk and may let weeds damage yields. Recommendations include 2 4 D formulations, Bromoxynil or Dicamba with 2 4 D, applied in early growth stages.
