A fund to explore the fossil discovery area northeast of Sidney has begun with a $500 gift from Dr. C. B. Schultz of the University of Nebraska State Museum. A full work program is planned for this summer with cooperation from Very Rare a Slush Pit and Ohio Oil, aiming to studyIce Age era remains including giant rhino saber toothed cat horse elephant and rabbit or mouse bones.

Max L. Casey, Sidney Senior High School principal, will join Nebraska State Teachers College at Kearney as assistant to the dean of student services starting September 1. He will supervise men's housing and Vets Village and perform duties of the dean of men. Casey holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska in August and has seven years each as a teacher, coach, and principal at Overton High School, seven years as principal and superintendent at Eddyville High School, and seven years as principal of Lexington High School.

Infant Improving Despite Suspected Malnutrition Case
A nine month old boy admitted to Memorial Hospital in Sidney is improving. The child weighed ten pounds four ounces and may be malnourished. His parents, with two other children, left Sidney last night in a trailer and reportedly did not inform the hospital or doctor. The father works for an oil drilling company and the family may move to Kimball. County Attorney Pat Heaton is overseeing the investigation. a Kansas doctor had warned of possible illness leading to malnutrition. The baby, born July 21, 1955, weighed eight pounds at birth and a priest was called to baptize him.

Inquest Scheduled for Car Death of Cheyenne County Youth
A six member coroner jury will hear the inquest into the death of William C. Earnhart 23 of the north Lodgepole area. The accident occurred eight miles northeast of Sidney when the car driven by Kenneth Oaken 19 of Lodgepole collided on two county roads Joyce Rogers 16 of Lodgepole was seriously injured and hospitalized. Funeral services for Earnhart were set for 2 p m at the Lodgepole Methodist Church with burial at Chapell. Earnhart a Navy veteran was the son of Mr and Mrs Roy Earnhart and his death was the county s first motor vehicle fatality of the year. The inquest may be held Saturday scheduled by Cheyenne County Attorney Pat Heaton Jr who is also the coroner. The date remains tentative.

John Gipfert Rites To Be Held Friday
Funeral services for John Gipfert 90 of Lodgepole will be at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Lodgepole Friday at 1 30 p m under Rev Norman Schroeder with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial Hospital records say he died yesterday after months of ill health. Survivors include two sons George Lodgepole and William Sidney seven grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren with arrangements handled by the Craig Mortuary. Born September 1 1865 in Germany Gipfert came to the United States at age 15 and lived in Pennsylvania before settling near Lodgepole Ohio? Wait Nebraska. He married Elizabeth Kiig October 16 1889. she preceded him in death in 1894.
