Band and Chorus Plan Concert at High School

4-H Leaders Return From State Training Session
About 200 Nebraska 4-H leaders returned home after a three day training conference at the College of Agriculture. Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben and the Cooper Foundation sponsored the event which drew county representatives to discuss methods and problems in leading 4-H clubs. Harlan Richards of Red Willow offered a typical profile as a dairy club head who gained new background for guiding his McCook area 160 acre farm and its 4-H group.

Safety gas ordinance passed to regulate installation

The lifeless body of Andrew Ottoson, 46, was found in a county jail cell and authorities say he hanged himself. A Sidney resident for 14 years, he worked on farms near Potter and was known in the area. He is survived by Verna, two sons Lowell and Oliver, a grandchild, four brothers, three sisters, and a host of relatives. Funeral services are set for Saturday at The Gehrig Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Monnich officiating. burial in Potter.

Artist Series Set For 47 48 Featuring Boys Town Choir
The 1947 48 Geater Artists series is booked with four attractions planned. The Boys Town Choir will be the highlight, expected to draw the largest crowd after a national tour acclaimed last season. Other acts include a violinist pianist and a male tenor. Local committee members include Mrs Walter Davis Fred Plorin John Martinosky and several others. The attractions will cost over three thousand dollars with underwriting by the Chamber of Commerce and support from other groups to keep the series self sustaining.

Frank A. Hand, 84, longtime Sidney resident, died Thursday after a long illness. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church with Rev. Walter Jewett officiating. interment in Sidney cemetery. Born October 4, 1863 in Branch County Michigan, he moved to Nebraska at 21, settled in Sidney, built a timber claim, developed a farm later regarded as Cheyenne County’s finest. He married Alma Palmer in 1892. they had six children. He belonged to Frank Welch Masonic Lodge and the Methodist Church.

Lady Hurt As Car Truck Collision Occurs on Highway 30
Mrs. Alfred Rahe of Oshkosh suffered a broken leg and other injuries in a car truck crash on Highway 30 west of Chappell Wednesday morning. She was hospitalized in Sidney. The truck driver was John Carlson of Chappell. The two vehicles collided head on in the road center and were badly demolished. Authorities cited possible low hanging smoke from a passing train as a cause.

Power unit testing pending in county sheriff case
The Cheyenne County sheriff's office arrested Alvin D. Koontz, 41, after a warrant from Glenwood Springs for a confidence game. He allegedly bought a car in Colorado Springs, issued a $600 bad check, mortgaged the car in Glenwood Springs, and was traced from Sterling to Sidney and Ordville, with prior employment at the Sioux Ordnance Depot. He is also wanted in Boulder for a $400 bad check.
