In Sidney from May 4 to 10 an unprecedented outdoor and indoor music program will entertain daily with bands orchestras and chorus groups. The city appropriated 100 for incidental expenses. all events are free to the public and staged on streets or the band platform with additional indoor programming to follow.

Sidney DeMolay chapter captured the first annual De Molay basketball championship in Alliance after defeating Hyannis 22 to 15 and then beating Alliance 36 to 11 in the finals. Team members included Capt Maynard Roache Null George Iverson Curtis J Rupert Campbell Roy Champers Francis Matteson and Lyle Clark. Alliance hosted post tournament events and a silver loving cup was awarded to Sidney, to be permanently kept after three more wins. Dr Taylor notes the birth of a son to Mr and Mrs Frank Kurz ten miles southwest of Sidney on April 3.

County Convention to Elect Five Delegates at Court House
The county convention will meet at the Sidney court house on Wednesday April 16 at 2 oclock to elect five delegates for the state convention at Omaha on May 1 and to transact other business. Apportionment bases on 1922 gubernatorial votes for Charles W. Bryan assign one to ten precincts and counts vary by precinct. Presidential year urged full representation from all precincts due to important business ahead.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Rasmussen of Potter was celebrated last Saturday. They are Denmark natives who homesteaded in South Dakota before moving to Potter in 1915. The event featured a church gathering, a dinner, and gifts of chairs and a gold coin. Also noted were the thirty seventh anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Mads Larson and the forty ninth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Nelson.

De Molays Celebrate Second Anniversary in Sidney
A banquet in the Methodist church parlors celebrated the second anniversary of the Sidney De Molay chapter. About 150 attended as officers were installed in the Masonic hall after talks by Leon Fine Roy Chambers and Arthur Daugherty. The roster included George Iverson Master Councillor Sidney Poole Senior Councillor and many others, with a lengthy list of officers and program details.

Fire Prince delights Hastings College audience in Sidney
The Fire Prince, a comic opera by Hastings College conservatory of music, played at the U S A theatre last Friday night to a large crowd. Misa Ruth Vaughn, a former Sidney girl, appeared in the cast and fifty two in the company plus a seven piece orchestra performed with fine chorus work and soloists Lindsey Henning Boyd Bohlke Marie Adams Agnes McClelland. The production, produced under special arrangement with Oliver Ditson company of Boston and directed by Hayes M Fuhr, showcased strong music and dramatic talent with notable orchestra credit.

War memorial to receive cannon and machine guns
B W Bonham says the War Department will provide a five inch siege gun and several machine guns for Cheyenne county’s county memorial. The equipment will be placed on the courthouse lawn with a sidewalk and tablet, crating and freight about $300. A carnival at the Tobin Opera House on May 2 and 8 funds Sidney’s share, moved from April 23 and 26 to avoid conflicting with the county educational exhibit.

Burgess to Stage Opera for City of Denver
A. C. Burgess will departApril 20 for Denver to stage The Bohemian Girl for three weeks during National Music Week. The production will feature Denver talent in the city auditorium with three evenings and one matinee. The cast includes a 200-voice chorus and principals. Burgess previously staged Martha for Denver and operas in Cheyenne including The Mikado Patience and Pinafore.

Chamber 15 Opposes Gravel on New Road in Sidney
The Sidney chamber of commerce at a weekly luncheon unanimously opposed spending county or city funds to gravel the north side road by the Union Pacific stockyards. The council had already opposed gravelling this stretch, with about $000 proposed for the work. The chamber suggested redirecting funds to other county roads. The meeting also heard from Floyd Williams, postal inspector, who praised western Nebraska and urged positive regional promotion. Judge Joseph Oberfelder to preside next week.
