Open House at Western Nebraska Vocational Tech Sunday

The Western Nebraska Vocational Technical School hosts an all day Open House and Flight Breakfast this Sunday. Merle Rudebusch and staff invite the public to tour facilities, enjoy lunch, and watch sky divers and bombing contests. Plane rides cost one cent per pound of weight.

Emil Suchy Dies At 78 Rites Set

Emanuel Suchy 78 longtime resident of Sunol and Sidney died Monday night at Memorial Hospital after being taken there hours earlier. Services set for 9:30 a.m. Friday at Gehrig and Sehn Funeral Home with Rev Ray Kosmicki of St Patrick’s church in charge. Interment in South Sund cemetery. Born November 2 1881 in Czechoslovakia. Married April 29 1964 in Sidney to Mary S Hlavacek. Surviving are widow a daughter Rose Mary Novak Schaumburg Illinois a brother Frank Suchy Garner Iowa and a sister Anna Cenick South Haven Michigan.

Rites Set Friday for Mrs Otto Anderson

Funeral services will be at 2 p m Friday in the First United Methodist Church for Mrs Otto Anderson 88 who died Tuesday at Memorial Rest Home She had lived there two years Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery Gehrig and Son Funeral Home in charge Surviving are her husband two sons Charles H Anderson of San Diego and Paul Byron of Colorado Springs two daughters Rosemary Swanson and Opal Brauer both of Sidney and three grandchildren Memorials are to the church The family provided the notice with the long weather forecast portion preceding it.

VFW Pancake Feed Saturday at OOF Hall

Longtime Gurley Resident Charles A. Gabriel Dies

Charles A. Gabriel 90 a Gurley resident for 52 years died Monday night at Memorial Hospital after weeks as a patient. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gerrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Henry York officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials to cancer fund. Born December 24 1879 in Eisenach Germany he moved to the United States at age 2 1/2. Married February 22 1906 in Odebolt Iowa to Lillian N Engel. Lived at Brookfield Nebraska and Sidney before moving to Gurley in 1921 where he ran a billiard parlor until retirement. Survived by son Frank V of Bellflower California daughter Anna Katherine Lane of Bonners Ferry Idaho nine grandchildren 18 great grandchildren four sisters and a half brother. Preceded in death by two sons Clarence and Roy.

Federal Grant Boosts Local Elementary Programs

The State Board of Education increased Title I funds by 10000 to 32889 for Sidney area elementary schools. Funds cover nurses and art coordinator during the year and summer programs at Sidney and St Patrick's, with remaining money aiding materials and media development for next year.

Expanded Athletics Program Approved By Sidney Board Of Education

The Sidney Board of Education approved expanding athletics at Sidney High and Junior High, adding a girls track program this spring and a junior high wrestling program for seventh and eighth graders. They also authorized more intramural football and track coaches, considered stadium press box remodeling, and set salary scales for non certified staff.

At the Nebraska Future Homemakers of America convention ending Saturday at the Nebraska Center for Continuing Education five thousand members were represented. Bertramson to lead agronomy at WSU College

Dr. Rodney Bertramson, longtime Potter resident, becomes acting chairman of the Agronomy and Soils Department at Washington State University in Pullman. He previously chaired the agronomy department from 1949 to 1967, later serving as director of resident instruction and holding fellowships in the ASA and AAAS.

4-H Spring Party Set With Carnivals At Armory

The 4-H Spring Party is planned for Saturday at 7 30 p.m. in the National Guard Armory. Each club hosts a carnival booth to fund 4 H Council expenses with last year proceeds buying scales for the 4 H grounds. Activities include cake walk jail penny toss ring toss country store cards and dart throw. Tickets for homemade ice cream pie and lunch. Washington Trip group will raffle a quarter beef to finance the citizenship trip to Washington D C. Tickets are 5 cents.
