Oil Moves Rig to Fleming No 1 in Cheyenne County
Oil observers track a busy week in the Fleming area near Lorenzo with a new rig moved onto Fleming No 1. Dimick No. 1 on Dimick land was abandoned after reaching 5,090 feet. Other wells drilled include Mohatt 3 Mohatt 4 in Sidney Draw and Dimery 3 4 in Doran Farms with cores and pumping units under construction. Kenton No 1 in Kimball County reached 6,039 feet before perforation. New wildcats at E M Voss No 1 near Section 6-13-53 and A H Johnson No 1 near Section 35-16-54. Police reported a break-in attempt at The Gift Shop in the early hours Friday. A prowler chiselled a native stone wall at the corner adjoining Stag Tavern, two feet thick, creating a hole that shattered plaster inside before fleeing when police arrived.

Oil completions reach new high in Rocky Mountain region
First quarter 1954 completions in the Rockies set a record with 936 wells through March 27, up from 642 in Q1 1953, a 45.79 percent rise. The Sidney American Legion Auxiliary will raise funds for its milk fund this weekend with Betty Crocker cake mix boxes. For each box sold Friday through Sunday at local grocers the fund gains a nickel. participating stores include Star Market Thompson's Food Store Preble's Red & White Rudy's Downtown Food Center and Rudy's Foodliner on West Illinois. Mrs Rena McCleneghan, Auxiliary president, says the effort will help provide milk for underprivileged children in the city.

In Cheyenne County many outlying towns posted higher turnout on election day aided by fair weather and various contests. Potter led with 229 town ballots and 45 rural, while a $85,000 sewer plan failed by 37 votes.
