The town reports home completions and ongoing construction on Rose Street and Front Street. New residents and job moves include Miss Nannie Anderson at the American Bank and Hiram Baker visiting from Colorado. Local offices discuss a saloon license and plans for another picture show, with community members traveling to Seattle and New York for various purposes.
Ben Mitchell of near Peetz sold a team of horses to Ollie Camblin of Sidney. Mr. Simpson near Peetz claimed the horses by mortgage, Mitchell departed, and the two buyers must settle the dispute between themselves.
Seattle real estate operator C. D. Hillman once jailed in 1895 for a fraudulent land deal receives a three year penitentiary sentence for swindling. The case recalls his earlier trouble and suggests a pattern in his conduct.
The Dorcas Society gathered with Mrs. McDaniel on Thursday afternoon. A pleasant afternoon ended with a nice lunch served by the hostess.
The village election closed with J J McIntosh H Schroeder and E W Ziebert winning over Dr L G Simon. A total of 238 votes were cast. Simon’s late campaign failed to shift the outcome.
Two Japanese men, Joe Ikomota and Frank Inouye, long employed by local families, have married by mail and plan to settle permanently. Their wives are due to arrive around August first, to join the Miles and Callahan households. Each groom has a picture of his future wife to identify her upon landing in Seattle.
Charles McKinney, traveling from Cheyenne toward North River country, was struck by two tramps near Marlow while boiling coffee. He lost hat, shoes and $10, and reported the assault at a nearby farmhouse. One assailant about 50 with red sweater and blue overalls. the other about 30 with green suit. Gypsies camped behind the North-side barn lost their best horse during Wednesday night.
Light rain and snow affected the region Wednesday and Wednesday night with high winds. The icy conditions lingered through the night while a bit of moisture brings hope for farmers at planting time.
Sidney Nebraska March 81 1911 regular meeting of the Board of Village Trustees with E W Ziebert as chairman and L Neubauer as clerk. Bills approved for General and Road Funds and exit lights ordered for Crystal Theatre and Tobin Opera House. A petition named J J McIntosh H Schroeder and E W Ziebers for trustees was filed and ballots ordered. Election board appointed with judges Bettendorf Parke Granneman and clerks Fine Blake.
The Methodist church collected 26 dollars last Sunday to aid flood-devastated areas in China. The fund drive reflects a local effort to support disaster relief overseas and notes the church’s support for international aid programs.
Railroad notes report Union Pacific activity with staff changes at the Sidney hotel and depots. Major items include Stunt leaving for Seattle, McFadden returning to work, and Jack Null Jr replacing Stunt as day caller. The line to Gering advances with a 30 mile Nebraska project and soda fountains promised on dining cars. Grading work from Sidney to Lodgepole starts April 20.
N Walters and his wife, after visiting Mr and Mrs Frank Tobin, have taken up residence on the Tobin farm. Walters is a brother of Mrs Tobin, linking the households.
The Sidney Steam Laundry installs new machinery and opens next Monday, April 10. Manager Huff and his wife oversee operations with experience in the trade. The electric powered plant at W. E. Hinman’s store brings quicker service and reduced express costs, supporting local business.
Births announced for Mil dred Virginia Robinson born April 2 1911 to Mr and Mrs Bruce Robinson. A boy born to Mr and Mrs William Conners on Saturday April 1. Congratulatory tone with birthday wishes and playful remark about April fools day.
Ernest E. Hitt completed final proof on his homestead before County Judge Gapen on Monday April 3. Clyde M. Johnson and Frank A. Hand witnessed. Joel Schad completed final proof on his homestead near Lodgepole before U S Commissioner Oberfelder on Monday April 3. Witnesses Ray Swift and John Griffith of Lodgepole witnessed.
The Modern Woodmen of America held a Wednesday night meeting voting on several applicants. Another meeting is scheduled for Friday night April 14.
