Rest Home Drive Leaders Meet For Final Report

Drive leaders from Memorial Rest Home will report Tuesday noon in the hospital directors’ room for an update on campaign results. The goal was 100000 dollars. recent total stood above 61000. Teams still to hear from include Dalton Lodgepole rural areas and Sidney prospects as some HQs await home-office approval. Growth remains uncertain, but Ira Steward says many potential donors have not been asked yet. If the drive reaches the target, rest home planning can advance with bids expected early fall and opening planned in 1959.

Four Projects On Panhandle Roads Included In Call

The State Highway Department will open bids April 24 on highway construction projects totaling 5 750 000. Four projects are in western Nebraska: Dawes 6.5 miles of grading culverts granular subbase crushed limerock base and asphaltic concrete on Nebraska 19 between Wayside and U S 20 Box Butte 11 miles of limerock base and armor coat on a secondary highway west of Alliance Scotts Bluff 6.8 miles of culverts crushed and armor coat on a secondary highway east of Scotts Bluff and north of Minatare Gravel resurfacing state main maintenance funds Sioux about 3 000 cubic yards on Nebraska 87 between Scotts Bluff County line and Box Butte County line.

Livestock Sale Pavilion Opens in Sidney Thursday

The Sidney Livestock Sale Pavilion will hold its first sale Thursday with Pete Rapp as auctioneer. The new facility near the Union Pacific tracks features a 550-seat arena, cattle pens for 600 head, hog and sheep barn, dipping vats, quarantine pens, and a restaurant, designed for year around sales and local economic benefit. About 500 head are consigned for the inaugural sale, employing around 15 staff and promising a long-term, community-backed market for livestock and the Sidney Beef Co. backing.

Depot Worker Fatally Injured In Freak Wreck

Frank Olivarez 30 a Sioux Ordnance Depot employee died Friday night when the car he rode in crashed into a service station sign on the south edge of Bayard The driver Cirilo Razo and back seat passenger Leonard Vera were treated for injuries Olivarez a Bayard native and 12 year depot employee left behind a wife and two children Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 am from Sacred Heart Church Bayard.

Dick Sharp Hurt In Car Accident

Nebraska patrolman Del Shipley reports a 12:35 am Saturday crash one mile west of Sidney on Highway 30. Dick Sharp, 17, of Sidney, driving east, lost control, leaving the south road side and rolling. He suffered severe head and chest injuries and lacerations. he is listed in fair condition at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital.

Western Nebraska Easter Weather Slams Roads and Spirits

A weekend snowstorm battered western Nebraska causing widespread travel disruptions on Route 30 and Highway 29 near Kimball Harrisburg and Sidney.
