Ohio Oil Co to Test Oil Production in Deuel County Nebraska
A new western Nebraska oil venture begins as Ohio Oil Co moves a drilling rig to the M. B. Porter farm northeast of Chappell in Deuel County to test a seismicly studied goal. Several other wildcats and tests are under way in Cheyenne, Sidney, and Dalton areas with mixed results including oil, salt water, or gas finds and abandoned wells.

Cheyenne County schools face broad faculty losses as several superintendents resign. Frank Mettlen of Gurley Kenneth Chambers of Sunel I A Caldwell of Lorenzo and George Henney of Potter depart. Sunel loses five of six teachers. others cited include Coach Paul Lattia and several female staff. Chambers plans to pursue ministerial studies in Colorado then a West Coast posting. Caldwell’s replacement will be Don Wise. Mettlen and Henney helped push new school facilities.

School Merger Approval Builds District Consolidation
Harmony School District No. 165 was approved for consolidation with Gurley District 138 and Dalton District 91-C after petitions and a March 11 public hearing with no opposition. Stalled Auto Hit By Train Sunday Night
Two weekend accidents caused heavy property damage and injuries. A 1948 Oldsmobile driven by Lawrence V. Schilz, 30, of Sidney, left the road Sunday afternoon and struck a guard rail post before rolling. occupants including Mrs. Florence Schilz sustained bruises and possible internal injuries. A 1947 Chrysler driven by Marion R. Simpson, Guide Rock, was stalled on railroad tracks Sunday night and struck by an eastbound freight, pushing the car 125 feet. three occupants escaped serious harm.
