450 Minutemen Ready For Firing Wing At Minot

The Strategic Air Command completed the third Minuteman wing at Minot Air Force Base bringing total combat ready missiles to 450. Each wing holds 150 missiles in reinforced silos with two other wings at Malstrom and Ellsworth AFB. By next year 200 more missiles should be in place across western Nebraska southeastern Wyoming and northeastern Colorado as Boeing begins assembly and checkout.

Miss McIntosh Chosen To Represent Nebraska At National Youth Conference

Barbara McIntosh of Sidney will represent Nebraska at the National Conference on Smoking and Youth in Washington, D C, April 30 to May 2. She was named by the Nebraska Committee For Children and Youth as one of five nominees from the state and will join delegates from other states and large cities. The conference, sponsored by the Children’s Bureau, aims to examine smoking from a youth perspective and will include study groups and consultant support. The event culminates in a publication, Youth Speaks on Smoking. Miss McIntosh chairs Sidney’s Youth Council and attends St Patrick Academy.

Placement tests for the Peace Corps will be given over Nebraska April 11. Winter Earle A dies. services set for Tuesday

Earle A. Winter 76, longtime Sidney business leader, died Saturday after a long illness at Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday at Light Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Carl L. Nelson officiating. burial at Greenwood Cemetery. He was a Nebraska native born October 10, 1887, married Evelyn Doran in 1939, and active in Memorial Hospital, Masonic and Elks lodges, American Legion Post 17, and the Sidney Rotary Club. He is survived by his widow, two sisters, a nephew and a niece.

Gish Funeral Set For Tuesday In Sidney

Mrs. Roy Gish 80 a Cheyenne County resident for 41 years died Saturday at her Sidney home of a heart attack. Funeral Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Light Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Carl L. John Kallenbach Rites Held Today

John William Kallenbach 75 of Dalton died at Pioneer Memorial Hospital after a stroke. Funeral services were held at The Craig Mortuary with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. He was born July 4 1888 in Dodge County Nebraska and moved to Dalton in 1914 later engaging in painting and decorating. Fred J Borges Dies Suddenly at 49 in Dalton

Fred John Borges, 49, of Dalton, died suddenly at his home after a heart attack Saturday night. A Cheyenne County native, he lived with his mother Anna C Borges and worked as a transport operator for Dalton Gas Service. He served in World War I and belonged to Weyerts Lutheran Church. Survivors include his mother, two sisters Mrs Lloyd Brown of Glenda and Mrs Willard Aurich of Dalton, and two brothers Franklin and Harold, both of Dalton. Lumber Fire on Union Pacific Boxcar

Firemen from Sidney and Sioux Army Depot responded at 9:42 a m Saturday to a blaze in a Union Pacific boxcar at Browneson. Flames started in the car floor and spread to eight-foot lumber loads. Firemen fought about 11 bundles of lumber before extinguishing the fire.

Nation salutes MacArthur with multi state funeral plan

The body of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur will lie in repose at the 7th Regiment Armory in New York from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday before a caisson transfer to Pennsylvania Station and Washington arrival.
