Miles defended by Hamer and McIntosh. Twenty counts were pared to fourteen for specificity. A testifying committee was named to report next term, with $100 deposits for expenses. each side covers their witnesses.

Eastern capitalists agree to construct a beet sugar plant at Sterling Colorado costing 600000 to 800000 dollars if local farmers pledge 5000 acres of sugar beets for five years. The plant should be ready to handle the 1903 crop. Governor Savage proclaims Arbor DayApril 22 urging half a million trees planted in Nebraska and memorial trees for President McKinley. The agriculture department offers free fungus disease germs to exterminate grasshoppers with fall application instructions. Some fields inoculate and release treated insects to spread the disease, reported as very effective.
